XM Tuner
I bought my xD Sunday and am loving it. I'm dropping it off at the dealership tomorrow so they can put on the spoiler, alloy wheels, alarm, remote start, and remote window control.
However, I was thinking of having them add in the XM Tuner. I have XM at home and my girlfriend has it in her car. When I bought my xD and the salesman and I were talking about options, he suggested that I buy an XM tuner from bestbuy or circuit city and install it myself. The idea seemed simple enough at the time, but searching around it seems I have no idea what to buy or how to install it.
Has anyone installed an XM tuner that they bought from someplace other then the dealer?
Oh, and if it matters, I have the normal stock stereo.

I use the pioneer inno and just plug it into the mini plug thats built into your dash(lower right near the passengers left knee. You can use the inno in the car while walking and in the house. It will also record if your really digging a cut and you can upload and make playlists from the computer. It is only 25 hour capacity IIRC.
enough for me. Great device
I now have it plugged into the back of my head unit. I replaced the factory one.

That's probably the least expensive way to do it, though it's not as clean as having it integrated... I just think they way Toyota set up the XM was poor planning. It's much too expensive!
I have a RoadyXT and do the same thing. I just plug it into the cig lighter and into the aux jack. A few zipties keep all the wiring clean-ish.

I found the parts I needed. XM receiver, fit kit, and cover. Turns out you need the Toyota/Scion factory parts to work with the factory head unit. Good news is I found the whole kit on ebay for $289.99 (with free shipping) which is a lot cheaper then the $449 my local dealership wanted. When I get everything I'll take photos of my install in case anyone else wants to do the same.
When I bought my xD, almost everyone of the cars came with the premium radio at $389 extra. I special ordered one with the stock radio. This week I added a Kenwood DNX5120 Navigation Tuner for $615 (ebay) and $78 for Sirius and $45 to get back the Steering Wheel controls. Beats the heck out of the Scion price for navigation and Sirius. I didn't add the iPOD adapter or the Bluetooth adapter. (maybe later) Since I can put 4 gig of mp3 files on a DVD, I have more music than I ever need.
Found a radio pin-out on this site posted for an xB by Tomas. That really helped.

Wondering how the install went? I would like to find the equipment you found and to the install myself, as well. If you have provided a tutorial, I would love to know where it is. Thanks very much. We advertise on XM. Would be nice to be able to hear the spots once in a while.

Hey Andy,
I ended up not installing it myself. Once I got the manual for the install I realized it would be more work for myself to do it then to have someone else who was already familiar with the process. It was only an hour worth of labor for the install which cost me $85. Which was worth it to me to save my afternoon of doing it myself.
However with that being said, I have the manual for it which you can download from here:
http://www.jonrick.com/scion/xm-scion-xd.pdf
There are three parts which you'll need. The XM tuner, the fit kit, and the receiver cover (you could skip purchasing the cover, but the receiver goes under the seat so it's worth buying to keep the unit clean and it adds a small level of protection)
The Part Numbers are as follows:
XM TUNER BASE KIT: 86180-0W031
XM TUNER FIT KIT, SCION xB, xD: PT546-52080
XM RECEIVER COVER: PT218-52071
Here are some pictures of all the parts:

I bought all the parts from Putnam Toyota Scion Wholesale Parts for $289.99 with free shipping. Putnam's number is 580-482-3814. I spoke with either Travis or Corey. I would just ask for whoever deals with selling on ebay (that's how I found them to start with) or you can just checkout their current auction on ebay here:

I hope that helps get you started. If you have any other questions let me know. =)

You're very welcome for the info. I almost forgot, when you go to sign up for the XM service. Be sure to use the special code "XMSCION03". It will get you free activation and 3 months of service for free. =)
