18 cars a month?
Of course you are right, but you can still guesstimate the number of xD enthusiasts by the SL registry. Looks like more people are buying the xD for what it is - affordable grocery getter.
...Which is unfortunate for Scion and Toyota. Glad I won't be one of those come Spring 2008. I'm still surprised at how quiet things are in this forum.
It's amazing at the process of buying a new car these days.

i don't think its unfortunate, honestly. I mean, it doesn't really matter what majority buys these cars, as long as Scion can keep releasing nice, cheap cars that look good.
remember though, scion is attracting all types of people. toyota is mainly going after the below-40 age group, not any particular crowd. again, as long as they sell, i don't care who buys them as long as it means these cars will be there in the future.
besides, what is an xa,xb,xd, or xb2 besides a stylized grocery getter? the tc isnt far from that, either. i mean, with money, any car can be made to handle significantly better, but the xb2 and xds are not advertised as sports cars. besides, id MUCH rather pass by someone loading a subcompact full of groceries vs. the insane number of suburbans and tahoes that currently FILL the local parking lots... watching someone travel with 7-8 empty seats in a fullsize SUV that has purely street tires, no off-road capabilities, and a tow hitch that's currently being used as an extra brake light drives me up the walls.
to each his own, this is the land of the free.. i just wish more people took advantage of being free and stopped being tools. i had a close relative recently confess that another family members Altima was more comfortable in all ways than her current BMW of choice, but "high class people don't drive Nissans" where she is from.. before buying a car, a list should be jotted down of the cars requirements for everyday use. this list should NOT include "something better than the Johnson's car," or "something big enough to compensate" ...
in other words, Scions should be all over the streets hauling groceries and diapers cross-country.

I bet that there are a lot of owners who merely lurk and do not reply until a specific topic appeals to them. This topic actually got me to register and post! HA! Hopefully more folks will join in and we can get a nice and fun active XD community to start posting!

I can't bring myself to spend more than $5K every time I change cars, and this last "trade" I was in a very budget-conscious mood, so was pretty happy when I ended up with extra cash in hand instead of having to add more. If I got the navi, it wouldn't have happened, and I really like my Garmin Nuvi.
I also went to the BMW 2-day performance driving school at their track in SC, so that was a small extra expense, but definitely worth it, especially when at "graduation" you get to whip an M5, 750iL, 650ci, 335ci, Z4, and X5 around the track full speed - sliding into the turns and all :D

Hey Zoltiz - What model Nuvi are you using? I had the same dillemma about the NAV as you did. $2,000 just seemed way to much for the option. I am planning on buying a Nuvi in the near future. I am considering the 200w model but am not sure if it gives the street names while giving turn by turn directions. How do you like your Nuvi? Was it tough to mount? Does it stay put on the windshield?
I have a nuvi360 - regular screen with bluetooth and talking street names. 200w does not speak out street names (if you really want widescreen - get a 6xx or 7xx and run a comparison to 360 if you want BT or 350 if you don't care for BT - Garmin website has great comparison tool.
I use the 360 on its native windshield mount, most of the time running on batteries (it lasts at least 3-4 hours without charging), but planning to buy a $10 Arcon mount for it with clear suction cup (OEM black suction cup leaves marks on the windshield in hot weather).

Xdnme, I've got a garmin nuvi 660 a few months back for little over $500 dollars. Wife and I love the darned thing. I'm sure they've gone down even more in price since the newest line of nuvi's came out in november.
Almost a week into Feb 08 now and we are still at 106 xDs in the registry and lowest forum activity on SL. xB 2nd gen has 4 times the posts (and close to 500 cars in the registry). We still have less than 18 cars registering a month.
xD going the way of xA / dodo?

I've seen more xD's driving around my area than before. They're being bought but most likely those people aren't interested in modding or anything. Anytime I drive by a dealer they have less of those than the xB-2 and tC.
