Am I Being Ripped Off???
I just got off the phone with my local Scion dealer.
I want to take the tires off of my xD (factory tires and steelies) and put those same tires on new 16" rims I'm buying.
The dealer said, "OK... well, the tire pressure sensors would need to be put on the new wheels and reprogrammed... we would charge you $270.00."
HUH? $270??
I told him I wanted to use the same sensors--not new ones.
Still, $270.
Sounds like a royal rip.
Is it? I have no idea.
Thanks gang...

yes! huge rip!
they just need to put in the new wheels and tires and be reset!
i got mine done for free by a local shop that put on my wheel package and springs....
DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER FOR ANY AFTERMARKET SERVICE....
they tried to charge me 900 bucks for a spring install and alignment, went to the local here and got springs tires wheels and sensor swap for 230....
go to a reputable local tire/wheel shop

Total rip off. The sensors do not lose their programming just from removing them. Just swap them then reset the tire pressures to the TPMS computer with the reset button under the dash. Wow. Now I know why they call them "stealers".
I did shell out $100 for moving the sensors, but it meant breaking up and then rebalancing one set of wheels, and then breaking up and rebalancing my new set of 18s. so basically 2x mount and balance, at $50/pop - could be worse, but I know that these guys do not destroy alloy wheels as opposed to most of the local tire shops that have a tendency to put gashes in any moderately expensive wheel they can get their hands on.
