Buy the Scion car alarm system?
If I buy ScionXD, I want a car alarm system.
The ScionXD has an add-on accessories car alarm system for $469. Did anyone here get it? Or is it better to get a car alarm system from 3rd party instead of from dealer?
On the same note, ScionxD's "Cargo Cover" costs $259 from factory/dealer...is there some place else I can get one for cheaper?
thanks

thanks for the responses!
If you can avoid getting this alarm, do so.
It is worthless compared to aftermarket systems. All it consists of is a "Glass Breaking Sensor" (microphone), and door open sensors. It will kill your starter if it is triggered. There is no motion sensor, i.e. "before someone breaks in sensor". The blinking light will be tucked between your seats where it is difficult to see should someone peek in.
The only advantage is that it arms with your keys lock button. So you don't have to have a separate remote.
For the money you can get a much better system installed by and aftermarket professional.
By the way, I bought this alarm unfortunately. That is why I try to keep people from making that mistake.

I do not have the Scion Alarm, but I havent really heard bad things about it...
I do want to toss out for information sake though, that the Scion Pure Price applies to all facets of scion purchasing, that includes accessories, warranties, and even financing... dealerships that are tossing in free parts are breaking the Scion covenant, which ruins things for the buyers... the point behind the pure pricing is that it is fair to everyone, that no one is treated differently due to their status/friendships/bargaining skills etc... personally I like the idea of walking into a store and knowing how much it costs for a gallon of milk, as appose to bargaining with a sales associate to get the best deal for it...

I see your point, Pure Pricing is supposed to make the car buying experience easier. Interesting thing is, when we went to the dealer to look at Scion and Corolla, the salesman seemed to advise us to get Corolla instead because he said it's a little bigger interior and such. I wonder if Scion's Pure Pricing system makes salesman made less on commission or something...
I would go aftermarket too. For the remote starter as well if you were considering that from the dealership too.
When I went to buy my xD I couldnt even get my dealership to throw in the floor mats for free. They did give me a price break on the extended warranty however when I was about to walk out. They said it was the only thing they had pricing control over.

I was negotiating price for another car, and I know the dealer didn't make much off me because I know the invoice price. I was asking him if he can throw in car alarm for free, he said he can't because the price of car is too low, and there is not much room to work with, and it's one of few times I believe a car salesman lol.
So yeah, it seems getting stuff for free works only if the dealer makes a few bucks off you....not sure.
Is extended warranty even worth getting? I only ask because from little I heard, it seems like dealer makes more off extended warranty than anything else, and people I know think it's not worth it, but I am not sure.
In my experience the extended warranties are worth it usually. I got them on my past two vehicles, a Dodge Ram and a Pontiac Sunfire. The Dodge's paid for itself when it covered the entire AC system from compressor to blower box to be replaced. The compressor was actually replaced twice under it. The Sunfire's paid for itself when the fuel pump was replaced under it as well as some other issues. Long story made short the dealership didnt believe me the starter was grinding intermittantly and by the time they did the transmission needed to be rebuilt.
Also, I dont know if its true or not, but someone told me that you can request a refund for the extended warranty or the balance of it if it expires and you dont get repairs done under it that are greater than the purchase price.
Along with the price break on the extended warranty, the dealership also said they would waive the $50 deductible if I brought the car back to them for work. They arent the closest Toyota/Scion dealership to me. There's actually 3 within easy driving distance here. But they had the friendliest people so I bought my car thru them.
