Default A/C problem... help

Have an automatic 2008 XD. Today I was at a red light for like 4 minutes, and my A/C suddenly stopped blowing cold air - just the fan was running. When I started driving, it came back on. I didn't hear anything turn off or on, just felt the air become cooler. Any ideas?

It could be the compressor was disengaged by the engine management system to keep the car from overheating. It difficult for the system to transfer heat when your not moving and the AC adds to the issue considerably.. As soon as you get airflow and the water pump moving again.. the system runs normally.. The radiator heat transfer also raises the fluid temp in the AC which affects the pressure.. The system monitors high and low side pressure and ensures the system stays within operating parameters..

As stated above it might have just shut off to protect the system, if the problem does not come back then it might have just been a glitch.
