Default Considering a Scion xD

Hi, I am 19 years old and have a toyota crapola... I mean a Tundra. I say crapola because it's 1995 and will soon die. So, I am in need of a new car. I considered used cars, but with gas prices, I feel a new yaris or xD would be more sufficient in the long run. I plan on using whatever car I buy for 5-7 years.

Anyway, is an xD worth it? Over the Yaris?

If I do buy it, should I consider any modifiers to the car, or buy the basic one? I think I want tinted windows, thats about all I can think of...

I want a car that is fun to drive, get me form point A to B, and good gas mileage. Also I plan on moving to Colorado within three years (I live in Texas right now). Will an xD be ok to drive up there?

I also need to consider the price. Worth it?

Also which color looks the least dirty after a few days driving?

xD is best deal in my books since it comes with side airbags and abs stock over the yaris. yaris gets a lil more love in the aftermarket dept though. Youll also get a mile or 2 more on ur mpg. also depends on whether you want the liftback or sedan of the yaris me thinks.

All in all I'd say go for Yaris if u need to keep ur payments low, xD if you have the money for it because its the better bargain over adding options to the yaris.

Keep mods away from the financing picture (unless u can pay the whole car then and there) Buy afterwards.

I am selling our old van and my truck... so I believe I will have 10k minimum on hand to payf or whatever car I buy. Along with my 6k I have saved... I probably can get a small loan at best, if I don't pay out of pocket.

What is more reliable and better resale value, I guess I should ask. And more fun. hah!

reliability should be the same being they are both basically toyotas, but im not sure how resale will pan out. as for fun, the xD is going to be a little peppier with the larger motor, especially if you get the 5-spd.

i was originally looking at the yaris as well, but really did not like how the dash was setup with the instruments in the center. the xD was also a lot more fun to drive for me. the xD and the yaris will both be equal for driving conditions in colorado, as well as most other front wheel drive sedans. though, putting chains on could be a pain if you lower the vehicle, as with any other. if you are really stuck on getting something with AWD, there is some suzuki car ive seen (SX4? maybe?) thats got it, and should be within the same price range. though, youd be losing reliability and resale for sure if you went that route.

ive got the magnetic gray xD, and it seems to hide dirt so-so... better than black or white at least. i guess it depends on the color of dirt in your area, lol.

have you test driven both of them yet?

zefoxe is right about the options and stuff as well. more stuff is standard on the xD. i also think the xDs aftermarket will eventually catch up with yaris soon enough.

oh, and mileage... i do most of my driving on the freeway, id say about 80%, and i average about 34mpg. ive gotten almost 36, but thats only if i baby it for the whole tank (which is hard to do, heh).

xd is 10x better than the yaris for the money. Standard in the xd you get cruise control, power windows, much more powerfull & still economy based engine, tons of cargo room & so on. I was looking at a yaris before I bought the xd. No comparison, the xd won hands down in every single category.

Well I think most people on this site would tell you get the xd because it’s what they chose. I just bought my xd because it came with more standard features and the hatch back is more practical for cargo especially when you put the back seats down. I test drove the both cars and I liked the handling of the xd better. And the only option I would suggest from the dealer is VSC especially if you live in an area with snow. All the other options you don’t really need just if you want it.
