Default cracked windshield HOW??

So the weirdest thing happened. I went on vacation for 3 weeks and just before i left I washed the car and parked it in the garage. It's a shared garage for those who live in the building. Just got back home not too long ago only to find a 6 inch crack in the windshield. NO chip at all. Leads me to believe that the only real option is that maybe it got too cold or something?? This is in Seattle...
Any ideas?
I highly doubt this would be covered under warrantee, just not worth it to claim under insurance so...
Thanks

The windshield on my xB cracked when it was in storage one winter and I got it replaced under warranty. If you are still under warranty it is worth getting looked at. They should cover it if there are no signs of a chip.

Sounds like a defect in the glass may have caused a crack from thermal expansion/contraction. Definitely take it to the dealer and have it done under warranty.

Most insurance policies cover one windshield replacement.

True, although if its cracked by reason other than a chip (faulty glass etc), cant hurt to at least swing by the dealer and talk to somebody, you'll be able to gauge how much hassle it will be to replace under warranty by the tone and manner the person looking at it will speak to you in. I actually have the same problem, no chip just picked up a 3" or so crack on the inside pane of glass on the windshield.

Finally got a chance to swing by the dealer this morning. There's a tiny tiny chip up in the corner of the windshield and apparently the cold weather forced the glass to crack about 6-8 inches. Not covered under warrantee so... I'll just live with it for now. Maybe if i get a few more cracks will I then have a new glass put in.
Thanks for your help guys

You better check the laws in your state about driving with a cracked windshield. I know in California a cop can pull you over and give you a fix-it ticket for a crack on the windshield.

Damn, this sucks, my xD windshield just cracked this morning. 13,000 miles. It rained yesterday and there was a thin ice glaze on the car. I started it up, turned the defrost on, and went back inside the house. Five minutes later I returned and there is an 18" long crack from the bottom passenger edge to the center. I guess I'll find out Monday if they warranty it.

I've got an xB and had this happen, was sitting at a stop light with no traffic and heard it crack, then grow. Took it to the dealer since the xB has a track record of stress cracks and got it covered. They ran a pen down the crack to check for chips, and "claimed" they found one but it was so small they would cover it. I didn't see or feel a chip but got it covered so I was happy.

Windshield broke again, this time from a rock while I was driving, in a tunnel, single lane so can't really avoid it. Was on travel at the time in Va Beach and went with Safelite.

http://www.safelite.com/

It was a good thing I didn't go local because when I got back took the other car for travel, xB was just sitting there, and it cracked again. Safelite was nationwide so I was able to get a rep out in Maryland as well. They agreed it was a stress crack (2nd now) and re-replaced it for free. Only downside is their replacement for stress cracks is only good for 30 days. This happened on day 26.

It's great for you that safelite warrantied the glass. Do they have genuine Toyota replacement windshield or is it generic? Not sure I want genuine Toyota anymore considering all the mysterious cracks.

About how much did your repair cost? I had them replace a Nissan windshield last year for about $150, but it was generic.
