Default Fuel/Mileage Counter

Hey guys and gals. Got something irking me that some of you might know how to correct without a trip to the dealership.

I'm not sure exactly what it is called but if you push the option button above the odometer the last option shows how many miles you have left in the tank before you hit empty. I usually click this one once I get to 2 bars left on my gauge as a reminder how long til I need gas (I'm weird...yes)

Yesterday on the way home I got down to one bar and it started blinking, so I clicked over to the counter to see how many miles I had left. It read about 9ish, no worries - I'd stop to get gas near my house. All of a sudden the counter dropped to 0...no warning,no nothing. I pulled into a close station and filled up, in case the counter was correct and its been stuck at 0 for the last few days.

This isn't a big deal, I really don't need it...but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if so, did you fix it.

Thanks in advance.

The number shown is an estimate based off your normal driving habits. It's never an exact thing, especially since your driving habits could severely change over the course of 1 tank. If it jumped from 9 miles to 0 miles, it's probably somewhat correct. Odds are, it's programmed to read 0 miles with about 1 gallon of fuel in the tank, just for protection.

I think it resets itself, not sure. I've checked mine from time to time and its always reset itself after filling up, not sure how soon afterwards, but it does. I try to always reset my trip odometer at each fill up, maybe that has something to do with it, or there may be something in the owners manual about it, never really poured over it, but there are some on here who seem to have, maybe they now more.

that is correct. after you have filled up, closed the tank properly, and put it in gear and hit 5 MPH, it resets.

Hrm. I used to do that but I started logging my miles and now I glance at how many miles I've done to figure out how much longer I can go till I need to fill up again. The other options that we have, I don't really look at since I know its not that accurate and I keep my own log for my mpg

easy to fix. get gas when the trip odo gets to 250....then you don't have to click to the miles left part. or I just leave mine on the part that monitors mileage while driving and when I get close to 3 bars, I just fill up...gasp....checked the odo, about 250 on it. amazing!

Even when it says 0 I still have 2 gallons in the tank thats at least 60 miles. I have had the computer not reset a couple times actually so it says i'm on zero even when i'm full it eventually goes back to normal though.

When mine says "0", I can put 10 gallons in it. I don't know what the true capacity of the tank is, but I doubt there's two gallons left. Yours and mine could be calibrated differently, though.

Is 11.1 what Scion claims, or has someone run theirs out of gas and filled up with 11.1? I've put 10.2 gallons in there twice... and it was reading "0" for somewhere between 5-10 miles on both occasions.

Well... run your car COMPLETELY out of gas, get towed to a gas station then see how much gas you can fit in

I think I've fit 10.3gal in before, I'll have to check my logbook to be certain though.

Nah... even if I did run out of gas, my insurance company would send a truck out with a few gallons of gas at no charge. That was one of the nice things about driving a Benz... they have roadside assistance for life. Anyone driving a Benz of any year with any number of miles on it is covered. I only had to call once when I left my headlights on and the battery died... and I was the 4th owner and the car had nearly 400,000 miles on it at the time. They sent an ML320 out and jump started my car with no questions asked.

I was... yes. Hey, the hotel had free internet and I have to do something before going to bed, right? I mean, the only channel they have in English is CNN, and I can only take so much of that!
