Default Has anyone done the webasto xD Sunroof?

i'm looking at getting an xD in the next month or so, but am giving up my *heavy sigh* Mustang convertible (kids don't fit, dagnabbit!). I'd really really like to at least have a sunroof - the dealer said they've never done it and don't think it can/should be done, but i saw this on the webasto site: http://www.webastoshowroom.com/scion_xD_2008.htm

has anyone done this on an xD yet? any problems with the roof ridges? leaking/rattles/noise issues? what did you pay? did you go thru the dealer or direct to webasto installer?

TIA!

I haven't seen an xD on here that has had a sunroof put in, however there are plenty of xB owners that have had 3rd party ones put in. Go look in their forums and find someone who sells them and possibly someone local to you that has installed them before (with referrals of course).

I was thinking it would be really fun to put one in my own xD but I don't have the deep pockets I once had.

I like it.... there is another sunroof (maybe same brand?) made that fits on the xA and xB1 that covers almost the entire top, and i believe both front and rear panels are retractable (if not, at least the front is). i plan on getting that on my xA when i can afford it.

Edit: I knew that name sounded familiar! http://www.webastoshowroom.com/06scion_xa524.html

Wow... That even looks better than the tCs panoramic roof from the inside. Though, I don't really like the exterior aesthetics in how it is not flush mounted with the roof skin. I can only imagine lots of wind noise from wind deflection at HWYspeeds... Or maybe not. It sure looks like a great and expensive mod.

So who's going to let their xD be the guinea pig and get this installed on theirs

i love how it pops up! lol, makes the roof look significant. idk about the sound, but it doesn't look too obtrusive (my last truck had a HUGE roof rack that didn't create any noise - '06 frontier - so who knows!)

hell if i had an xd id do it!!!!

I actually sent an email to a local installer about how much it would take to install one of those sunroofs that was used on the xD on webasto's site. Nothing back so far. Guessing its going to be more money than I have though hehe.

My main concern would be how the sunroof seals with the unusual shape of the xD roof. The roof on the xD has a definate center "channel" so to speak and it wouldn't be possible to mount glass flush on the roof. I can't see in the picture how they have "sealed" around this.

Secondly, the installation. You have to take the headliner out to install this. I removed my headliner to installs some wiring and wish I never had. The xD uses all clips to retain the sunvisor, grab handles, and for the back "C" pillar trim, the top clip must be broken to get the cover off as it is a side curtain airbag clip. It cost me $65.00 in new clips to install my headliner back on my xD as none of them came out without destroying them. I would ask that these all be replaced...You WILL know if they didn't.

Just my opinion, I wouldn't even think about doing it.
