Default I have gripes about my xD.

the dipstick and the front end.

starting with the dipstick. I've owned 10+ toyotas and never once had a problem with any gray areas as to how much oil is in the engine. I bought this scion, and now I have to dip and wipe 30 times just to get a good idea of where it is. I know most of you probably don't do maintenance yourselves, but for those who do, have you had this problem at oil changes? or am I just a slow learner?

my problem with the front end are the BUGS. I spent an hour washing my car the other day. 45 minutes of that was spent scrubbing bugs and their guts off the front of my car. I've lost hope in washing my car anymore, because as soon as I drive it again, I get giant bug guts and bugs all over the place. I should probably look into some special sprays or something.

anybody else share these feelings with me?
any help to rid me of these issues would be most appreciated.

Yea the dipstick is a lil annoying, i think its mainly do to the engine being mounted on angle more so then the ordinary flat transverse way. I just give a 1/2 hr for the oil to drain and then fill a little less then the maximum oil amount when refilling to be on the safe side.

As for bugs, thats moreso an environment and highway issue, not the cars fault I know in NY we've been getting a mess load of more bugs from all this rain last month
This should help though: http://www.soloperformance.com/Road-...lm_p_1519.html

Well the cars front end is to blame for the bugs thing. With my last car it's front end was pretty small, maybe a foot. But the way the xD is designed it's practically a rolling wall. I guess that's why the Corolla also gets much better mileage

I've had an issue with the bugs as well. but it's really not the cars fault IMO. if I'd have thought about the design of the car from this angle when I bought it I may have made a different decision. if I drove around town and hot 80% highway it wouldn't be an issue.

and I average between 35 and 38 mpg highway on 18's with 225/40 tires so I can't complain there.

I have noticed the dipstick is a hard read as well. I'm at 12,000 miles and approaching my first self-performed oil change.

Have you waxed your xD? That helps somewhat with bug removal. I'm also due for another waxing.

My main gripe and it's pretty common on many cars is the off-gassing from the dash has me constantly scrubbing the inside of the windshield. 2nd gripe involves the side windows. When they are covered with moisture, lowing and raising them does not wipe off the moisture.

On a positive note: I have an 08 RS1 and I love the handling!

GeoUSA turn your air flow from recirculate to bring in fresh air from outside and then turn your vent to face the window, that will take care of the moisture on your window. If you do this and turn your vent selector to windshield it'll fix your windshield as well. Turning on the AC will fix it much quicker.

As for the MPG I get like 40 mpg at 55mph. But going 70 it drops down to 34. My last car was pretty much as aerodynamic as a vette so I got 40+mpg even at speeds of 70+mph. I guess it's just something I'll have to deal with

I was thinking the same thing... but I thought it was more odd that he said that we dont do our own work to our cars... while posting on a Scion xD forum... If we didnt work on our own cars, why would we post about them?

thats 2 cars a year, starting from age 12! incredible! and that doesnt even include the "+".

geo, ive noticed the same thing. the dash really puts a lot of grime on the windshield. i have to wipe the windshield at least once a month, especially if theres hot weather.

all three of my Scion's have that issue. it's not just the xD. as for bugs. I bought soemthing that seems to work really well called Bug of from griotsgarage. I highly recommend getting some. It says to spray on a couple coats. I did some mass murder with my xB the other night and bugs wiped right off with another spray on. good stuff

Nah but thanks. I'm talking about moisture on the outside of the side windows.

Outside? Well that doesn't make any sense, that would mean that the inside of your car is too cold.

Could that be fixed by a cabin filter, pickled?

I have a cabin filter in mine and It still gets the "soot" build up that pickled is talking about...

I've waxed my car once already. So far my xD just has a short shift block. it's my daily driver, I don't do anything to it other than maintenance.
