Making an offer on a 2010 xD
Hi, xD owners. I've been shopping for a new car for about 6 months now and just recently knew I'd found the one when I drove an xD. I absolutely love it. I want a Barcelona Red 2010. I'm really excited. Right now I'm driving a '92 Ford Tempo that shakes and rattles when it rolls.
I was wondering if anyone has car-price negotiating advice. Dealers will tell me the price is meant to be set for a Scion, but I know they have some room. I've read that MSRP is $15.8K. So I was thinking of saying I'll pay no less than that and I want them to throw in the aftermarket sunroof if they don't go below MSRP. I figure the 2011s will be out soon and it can't hurt to try to get a deal. Plus I have people convincing me to try to drive a hard bargain in this market. But I'm curious: What do you think? What would your starting offer be?

good luck getting some money off
scions are known to be good cars and cheap and they have a pure price meaning the price you see the price you pay.
all you can do is MAYBE get some free extras (all season mats, trd springs, etc)
welcome to the scion world ( we called it addiction)

Wonder if employees get employee discounts on new Scions, seeing that the dealership doesn't make barely any money on Scions.
Lol we don't. I got mine for the same price you could get one off the scion website. The pure price means the dealership is selling it for what it costs them. They try to make money in extras, which you can haggle on.
Some dealers discount. They have to discount ALL the XD's and advertise it to do so. In the Phoenix area I found one dealer who was discounting all the XD's by $900 and so paid just under $15K for the manual 2010. If you have several dealerships, be sure and check their websites and the advertised prices....but I haven't seen anyone that could haggle their way down.
When I bought my '08 last August (2009, not 3 mos ago) I paid 14999. Pure price was I believe 16020. I was able to haggle down just a wee bit because it was an '08 model year being purchased in '09.
Good luck though!

MSRP means nothing its a made up number. you should always try and find out how much the dealer paid for the car. check edmunds http://www.edmunds.com/scion/xd/2010/index.html
you should try and make an offer of at least $400 dollars more than the invoice price cause there has to be some profit for the dealer. every product has a defect.

MSRP in general does means nothing. However, when it comes to Scions, Pure Price does have meaning. The price of buying just the car is set by the manufacturer. If you're buying just a current model year Scion anywhere, you will not pay less than Pure Price for it. Now you can haggle on dealer services and accessories and whatnot but not just the car.
The same way Saturns were back in the day.
I have gone through the scion buying process 3 times ( once for my mom, and twice for me) can tell you that you will not get a discount off of the cars sticker price, but what you can do is negotiate extras on to the car, I was able to get 18 inch after market wheels on both of my 08 scions for free
Pure pricing is great. People don't go to Best Buy and try to negotiate money off of a Playstation. You either like the price and buy it, or you don't. Scions are like that. You know what you are going to pay up front. No surprises. All other dealerships jack up the price, knowing that everybody who comes in wants to haggle. Scion doesn't. They make a certain amount on the car... that's it. If you like the xD, go for it.
I paid MSRP on my xD and my tC. There is no haggling, and if a dealership does haggle on the price, they are suppose to lose 1/3 of thier allocations of Scions on the next batch they should be getting. Please report dealerships to Toyota if they try to haggle a price with you. It is not fair to everyone else who is paying the correct price on thier new cars.
