Default Oil dry at 3500mi?

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.. today my boyfriend was driving his XD into work (bought March 08, auto, no mods). As he was pulling into work the oil light came on. He parked, checked the dipstick and it was bone dry. He's only at 3500mi and obviously Scion recommends oil changes every 5000mi. I don't think he's leaking oil due to the lack of oil stain in his parking spot.

Anyone have any ideas? We were hoping to research this a little before calling the dealership to see if it's happening to anyone else.

I had no problem with my XD; I've lasted through to 5000 and 10000mi oil changes no problem. TIA.

Dang, if there is no leak then it sounds like the dealer forgot to give him his first oil change. I'm not 100% sure about this but I think that the car comes from the factory with a little oil in it, but the dealer is the one that is supposed to fill it up all the way. I can't see how this wouldn't be the dealer's fault, so when you take it back make them give you an answer about why it happend, don't let them just say that they don't know.

As for your original question, no I have not heard of this happening with any scion. Good luck.

Better not drive it, or even start the engine for that matter. Starting the engine without motor oil = very, very bad. The dealer should be liable for this, plus any further expenses/risks. Can you have it towed back to dealer? Nevertheless contact the dealer immediately. GL!

Oh yeah, no I haven't heard anyone else having this problem/defect with their scions.

Manual says oil will typically drop within the 5000 mile change. Check it everytime you fill your gas tank and add when need. Best thing to do is put half a quart of oil and take it to the dealer asap if it really is that low that way u have enough to get there and it won't damage the engine if there really isn't anything wrong.

wow, that is bad, i would add a quart see where the oil reach on the dip stick. add little more every time if needed.

my tc got 47k miles, it got couple mods.
But i never got oil problems.

Very odd! There is some oil consumption in every engine, but bone dry is very ridiculous. The oil is filled @ the factory. Sounds like a possible Toyota boo-boo!

i'm wondering where can i get an oil replacement procedure info? asking about it because want to do it myself.

replaced an oil at dealership today.... technician spilt the oil everywhere under the hood. they replaced the engine oil filter too and now my car makes some whistling (it's hard to explain actually) noise somewhere on the right side under the hood if you look directly at the front of the car. and the last ridiculous thing was they soiled my interior... everywhere's oil on my interior (((

If they did that to your car why did you drive it off the lot and back home? I would not accept my car back like that! Go back on Monday and demand that they clean up your engine bay and interior of your xD for free. Thats ridiculous that they would hand the car back over to you in that condition.

Also complain about the new noise that you heard while driving.

Super easy. Once you've done it, you'd wonder why pay a lot to do something you can easily DIY.

Here's one I found (using search, lol!)...it says "w/ pics" but they've been since removed by the OP. Check the Maintenance, and the Tech, sections for more cool DIYs and carcare infos.

Check out this post. Toyota has issued a technical service bulletin about possible excess oil usage on the 2ZR-FE engine we have in our xDs. It's supposed to only be on some Matrix and Corolla's with older ECU programming. I am keeping a closer eye on my oil level at any rate. Hope your car is okay.
