Default questions about the Alarm

I'm planning on pulling the trigger on a new Scion xD tommorow and am wondering if anyone could tell me about the $469 addon alarm. I've installed alarms with success before and think I can do it myself.

Is the addon alarm for the xD the same RS3200 Plus available here:
http://www.trdsparks.com/displaypart...&parts_id=1844

Does that come with installation instructions for the xD?

Will I need to change the keys?

Thanks!

The xD doesn't have a chip in the key as far as I know, so you shouldn't need to do more than copy the old key to the new key.

As far as install goes, if the xD is wired anything like the xA, you won't need detailed instructions, just a multimeter. The wires needed were extremely easy to locate on my xA.

I say if you have any experience at all, go for it. But to me, taht extra $200 is a lot of money ;-)

Alright, thanks! So I was looking through the instruction manual - What is the V4 harness and how do I know if i have it?

Otherwise it looks simple.

If you have experience, I would consider a slightly higher end alarm. The glass break sensor is nothing but a little mic that picks up on high frequencies and may not go off if your windows are tinted. It has no shock sensor.

For that much money, you can get a Viper or Crimestopper on eBay with remote start and shock sensor, and pick up the glass break sensor too.

Might help a bit, different application but same principle. I think the V4 harness is just one of the connections under the dash. Looks like the Scion alarm systems hook directly into the car's current harnesses, which will make installation just that much easier (no vampire taps, splicing, heat shrinks, electric tape... awesome!!)

Thanks guys - This looks very doable. On page 10 and 12 of the installation manual there is a number of conditionals depending on if you have the V4 Harness.

Does anybody know for sure how to tell if you have the V4 Harness?

I just called a dealer and asked to talk to parts - then asked what the V4 harness was, they sent me to service dept then the secretary talked to a tech, who said that it won't work if I install it because they have to program the car with a computer.

Is this true? I want to call shenanigans on this!

Todd, there is no mention of reprogramming in the install manual, so you will be fine.

V4 is a remote engine start accessory, V5 is the code for the security system that you are about to buy.
