Default Random throttle body gasket question

I had my intake manifold off sometime back, and between it and the throttle body is a gasket. I understand that the gasket provides a seal between the throttle body and the intake manifold, but why is there a grate/grill that covers a 3rd of the inlet? I conjure up a pic later, but any insight would be welcome. Also, would it hurt to just cut out the grate?

Some cars might use that as a debris guard or it might have something with airflow. IMO I would leave it for now.

Well I thought the same thing, but I was wanting buy another and cut it. It's obviously not for filtering anything since the air filter does that before air reaches that. It does seem to be directional for the air flow from its orientation on the intake manifold. The grate is on top and the velocity stacks are are on the bottom. I wonder if it would hurt anything to remove it.

It's obviously designed to modify the airflow between the two parts.. I would
leave it as is.. It doesn't look like much of a restriction anyway..

I understood that, and appreciate the help. I was wanting more insight than, they designed it that way so leave it alone. I guess I was looking for someone who has tried it. The reason it has been on my mind is I have an aftermarket intake manifold that has velocity stacks for the runners in a different place than stock, but the gasket placement is the same as stock. So the grate/grill which does not look restrictive is making the air that runs through it more turbulent and then sucked into the velocity stacks. So that's kind of the angle/info I'm looking for. Sorry for any confusion.

Sounds like something a tweaker would do.
