I’m unable to get photos of what I’m talking about right now, so bear with me.

Does anyone else’s xD have this…plastic/vinyl overlay…thing over the back section of the passenger doors/side skirts? I’ve noticed it before but never paid it much attention, figured it was protective somehow. After cleaning the car recently though I noticed that it’s a lot duller than the rest of the paint. Kind of sticks out and looks cheap. Thinking it may be similar to the vinyl that’s on the pillar in between the door windows, but it seems thicker. Didn’t know if this was just part of the car or maybe a defect during paint. (maybe some plastic got left on or something)

Just wanted to check and see if anyone else noticed it to or maybe even removed it. I’ll try to get pics of it but to be honest you can’t really tell unless you’re right up on it. Maybe if I use macro mode or something.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. It looks to be the same stuff as clear bras. I would guess that Scion knows that that area of the car is more susceptible to damage than other parts and they placed that vinyl there to protect the paint.

 

It prevents/limits damage from rock chips.

Lots of cars have these (including G35, for example). Mine kinda got covered by the FiveAxis kit, though, so I'm open to rock chips once again

 

its the same as the Rock Blocker that is for sale on the market now. I wouldnt be surprise if they out sourced the job to Rock Blocker. The clear vinyl is supposed to do just that, stop small debris from damaging your paint in that specific spot.
