Default Where is the xD and new xB being manufactured?

I had read some time ago that the new models would be manufactured in the US but haven't seen confirmation. Does anyone know?

aha - sorta hoping that these would have been made in the US after all. Too bad - won't affect my decision as I'm definitely replacing my xB (the lease is up in July) with an xD.
Thanks!

Very doubtful that the xD will be available in July.

That's really unfortunate - the timing is off just a little bit. Fortunately I live in Brooklyn so transit's not a huge problem. I am already prepared to be car-less for at least a month or more between when the lease ends and when the D actually ships. It'll be weird not having a car during the summer though.

The best indicator would be to check the pre-delivery sticker on one of the side windows of the xB2 and xD. But according to the link below, the Scion xB Gen 2 is made by Central Motor Co., Ltd. a Toyota Subsidiary/Affiliate.

http://www.toyota.co.jp/en/about_toy...ing/index.html

Although this building was built in 1950, the automotive manufacturing process is high tech. The plant is located in Tsutsumi, Japan.

Dont let the sub/affiliate worry you. The LC, LX470, Japan made RX330, Prius, and others are also made at Toyota sub/affiliate sites. Oh, the Scion tC is made at Tsutsumi.

The classic Scion xB/older gen bB were made along with the xA at the Takaoka Plant (a Toyota owned plant).

(And the current JDM Toyota bB is made in a Daihatsu plant, I believe in Osaka...) (Here's the Daihatsu version with the interior, side air bags, etc., that we should have gotten in the US to replace the first gen xB: http://www.daihatsu.com/catalogue/materia/ )

i heard that they will not be making scion vehicles in the US. I wouldn't buy them if they were. The quality wouldn't be the same.

Foreign cars made in the states are still held up to the top quality standards as their makers over seas. The UAW isnt there to allow the workers to get lazy and drive up the prices.

BTW ... i believe there are 2 Scion plants that are currently being built here in the cont. 48.

Many leasing companies, especially the "captives" (Toyota Financial Services in Scion's case) will let you extend a lease for one or two months at the current payment, especially if you have a car on order.

Guess you haven't ever heard of the Camry then, which is rather shocking as it's been the number one selling car for 8 of the last 9 years. Been built in Georgetown, KY since the mid 90's, and is widely known as one of the most reliable cars you can buy.

It's not the location that make the difference, it's the system and how closely it is stuck to.

Toyota Leasing has offered to lease my current car to me until the new one comes in. They offer you additional lease in a 6 month terms, which according to them are cancellable anytime. When I get closer to incept date I'll have more detail.

call me old fashioned but i bought my xb because it was made in japan with japan styling cues.it just seems weird to have a japanese car with their technology put together by american hands.i'm not prejudice i have a 67 buick also and if it were made in japan i wouldn't have bought it.i think the people who designed and engineered it should build it.

fro those where it might matter, the xD is the new Ist in Japan. that should spike some sales for the JDM heads like me. really means that there will be some really high quality stuff available like bodykits and suspensions. That's where it is for me. I mean, I love my xB, but I would mod a xD next time around. I learned from the lack of xA's at car shows. And I almost got one too.

I think this new xD is sharp. Quite a huge change from the xA. I'll definitely consider purchasing one. At $3.50/gallon, it'll be a welcome relief. Anyone know the release date?

Thanks,

They're already made in Japan. Yes, I said already made. At the moment they're just chillin in Japan. They'll be shipped in a month or 2. Ask how I know, they did the same thing with the xB2. I can't give a release date but they'll be in the US soon.
