On the highway I presume, certainly not around town. Could you clarify 'around 37', do you check it, or estimate it. I'm serious, because on a lot of boards like this people make mileage statements, without actually really checking and doing the math.

If you are really getting 37 mpg overall, a mix of city and highway, (it would be nice to know the percentages) and you drive with the A/C on and at (or slightly above) legal speed limits and you don't have your tires severely overinflated, and you don't shut your engine off at every redlight, you have a freak of an XD and I would keep that car forever!
Sorry for the delay haven't had time to check these boards in a few days...

I drive a combination of Highway and city but the Highway Miles are only at the posted speedlimit of 55MPH. I usually do about 60. If I am on the Interstate and do the posted 70MPH I usually get about 36MPG. The city driving I do is probably 40%. But its usually not sitting in bumber to bumber traffic jams.

I use the average meter which is usually about 3MPG off. I fill up when the light starts to blink and at that time it takes 10 Gallons to fill it and I get about 370 Miles out of a tank. No premimum gas just the standard Unleaded.

why use the car computer when it takes a few seconds to divide mileage driven by gallons consumed? Curious what you are really getting if you do the math

370 out of a tank - i have yet to get 300 and that's even with the tank being nearly dry! i'm jealous...

this is of course in SW FL though so the a/c is constantly running an this time of year and all the gas stations are loaded up with ethanol laden crap gas.

yeah, geez, my light starts to blink at about 260 or 270 miles. and yes, about a gallon left when it does. I sometimes can squeak out just over 300 miles on a tank, but I'm down to fumes by then... 370 at blink is just insane, I can't believe there is so much difference in people's mileage... Man, I gotta quit reading this thread or I'm going to start crying, boo hoo...

It honestly has to be the gas in the different states and the different gas stations as well. It's so irritating

possibly, and I am sure temperature/humidity/elevation all pay a part, but most likely the difference is in the way people calculate fuel mileage. in order to do it correctly you must do this:

1. fill the fuel tank
2. Write down how many miles are on the odometer
3. Set the trip odometer to '0' (both of them)
4. drive normally as you do until you need fuel (this may take several days)
5. fill the tank, check how many gallons the car took.
6. check the odometer and subtract the number taken in step 2 . (this is miles driven)7. check the trip odometer (it should match your subtraction above)
8. Divide this miles driven number with how many gallons you just put in.

The number you get will be how many miles per gallon.

Going by how many miles you wnet on a tank is not the correct way, and can give an incorrect mpg number.

Another thing that messes up mpg readings is if you put different size diameter tires on the car.

. Just filling it until the nozzle kicks off isn’t accurate either, but it’s the best one can do I guess. Each nozzle can be different. If you do this to gauge mileage id use the same pump to refill.

i personally wouldn’t do it, but if you wanted to know for sure, fill it up until you can see the gas and remember where it was. Then fill to that mark again. Other wise you have no idea.

i have filled up before and just let it click off, and when i drove a way i had 3/4 of a tank!

I would not fill it so you can see the gas, that would certainly damage the charcoal canister. I go to the sam gas station and amazingly always get the same pump, so the odds are it will be close each time.

I'm not able to fill up at the same station and at the same pump all the time.

If you were cheated a 1/4 tank of gas and you paid for a full tank of gas you should've turned around and complained that they were cheating.

lol no they were not cheating, my point is that nozzles will shut off ant differant times. that one was just very sensitive, if i would have pulled the handle again i would have been fine.

Here is a pic of my Trip A Meter. I always reset at fill-up. This is what it was at when I refilled yesterday. It took just over 10 gallons to fill it up.

just remember everytime you push your brakes. Your creating heat on them that you just produced by burning fuel. The best way to save fuel is to learn to use the brakes less.... that means letting off the gas a coasting to stop lights/stop signs.... You dont have to coast all the way, but there is no reson in speeding up to get to a redlight, stopsign, or to ride someone azz.

That being said, my wife gets around 34mpg and I get right cloose to 40mpg, same vehicle, same route.

if it was a 6 speed i could see it making a bigger differance. Dont get me wrong, I love shifting gears and love being more in control. But since my wife wont learn to drive a stick..... well I cant complain much about this auto, it has good ratios and shifts firmly, I do wish the tourqe converter wouldnt unlock so easy at around 40mph.
