Default xD Rel 1.0 - Tinting Recomendation

In the process of moving forward with window tinting on my xD Rel 1.0. Want to know what Tint % members have done to their xDs, especially Rel 2.0 wners

Here is what I was thinking so far.

50% Windshield, Doors and Hatch
50% Windshield, 35% Doors and Hatch
35% Windshield, Doors and Hatch

Note: I live in California

Appreciate any feedback and photo's describing the %'s.

What state do you live in? I would really look and see what the tint laws are so you have a better idea of what they say is allowed. Not like it matters since most of us (in Cali anyways) go under.

I'm not an RS 1 owner, but I have 30% in the front and 15% in the rear.

30% all around. Just north of Philadelphia. Some cops are a$$holes, some cops aren't. Go further north from me, and you'll run into all cops being a$$holes about it.

Going to go with 20% all the way around when I get it done. If I get pulled over, I'll roll my windows down before the officer gets up to the car. They want to be able to see into the car when they approach it.

Cops around here can pull you over just for your tiny....that doesn't work. Now obviously if you were speeding, or did something else that he pulled you over for, roll all 4 down

I was thinking the same thing - I am not sure about tint. I live in OH and the front windows must be 50%, but the back 3 windows can be any darkness (and color) Everyone in my family has tinted windows, but they are much darker than 50%. Cops have never given them a problem. I am not sure how hard it is to drive at night with tinted windows. I was looking forward to putting decals on my back window, but you can't do that with tinted windows.

Do you guys tint your windows for aesthetics, or for a functional purpose? Does it make a difference in the summer with heat?

Also, is it worth getting the tint done at the dealership? My xD is coming in this weekend.

I personally dislike tinted cars because :

1) I can't see the car ahead of them which is dangerous since everyone in New York tailgates each other at 70 +MPH.

2)If I want to make a left turn and the driver in the opposite lane wants to do the same, I either have to wait for him to complete the turn or wait until the light turns because I can't see through the drivers windows if there are any cars coming up behind the driver.

3)Tinted windows are one reason why police officers die everyday because some wannabe convict pumps a .38 special into his/her cranium and drives off.

4)IMO, it makes the driver have low self esteem and is shy to show her/his face in the public.

But, if you still want your xD to be tinted, heres a good website to start.

1) Realistic. Welcome to the real world.
2) You're retarded to rely on being able to see through windows to make your turn. Wait until you have a CLEAR LINE OF SIGHT. Who taught you how to drive.
3) Very true
4) I roll around with my windows down 95% of the time in the summer, winter I wish I could go to non-tinted because the heat coming in is nice. Summer time, a windshield reflector and tint keeps your car a LOT cooler. Not shy to show my face, why would I be? Chances are, I'll NEVER see that person again.

How much did you all to have your xDs tinted? Obviously prices vary with what type of tint you get, and who does it, but I'm looking for a ballpark figure.

My xD is coming in over the weekend, and I'm wondering if it is worth it to have the dealer tint the windows for me for $300.

I got mine tinted for $230 for 30% in the fronts and 15% in the back. Honestly I would look around for local shops and see what their price is compared to the dealer. Does the dealer give a lifetime warranty on the tint they use? If you sell your car, can you transfer that warranty to the new owner? With the tint that I have, I have all of the above.

Those are good points I didn't think of Chels. Thanks!

I am finding everything I want for my xD is so much cheaper than the dealer. The only thing I like about the dealer is they install whatever you purchase. I was thinking of buying the spoiler, and I know nothing about modding a car (if that's even considered "modding" anymore compared to some of the things people have done to their cars).

If you're not handy or don't know any handy guys that work on cars, I would get the spoiler through the dealership Stuff like that would be best warrantied through them should any bad installation related occurences happen. That way they're liable for the shoddy work. Though I really doubt they would do shoddy work since they're a dealership. Plus you can roll that spoiler in to the financing

Any of the smaller mods don't bother with the dealer. Like floor mats, the interior lights (should you want them) or wheels are much cheaper else where.

I had my xD tinted about a month ago. I don't know the exact %, but when I had it done, I had them do the very darkest tint possible, they referred to it as "limo black".

I had the front windows, rear windows, and hatch done. It's a different experience driving a car with really dark tint and it took about a week to get use to it. During the day, it's completely fine to see out and I have no problems what so ever. At night things get a little harder to see... in fact if there aren't any lights, I can't see out the windows at all, but a quick roll down fixes that problem.

I also live in Southern California, so it never gets to the point where I wouldn't be able to roll down the window if I really needed too.

Like I said, during the day it's totally fine, and at night, with headlights from other cars and streetlights, I can see everything pretty much just fine. It's only on dark roads with no street lights do things get hard to see.

As to my opinion after the fact... I love having them super dark. It makes me feel safer in the car knowing no one can see me. With my Nav system, it makes me feel safer knowing that no one can see into my car while it's parked out in the open, and it keeps the car A LOT COOLER when parked in the sun.

I don't know how far down you are in Southern California but I can recommend a GREAT tint shop, that will do as dark as you want for the same flat price. The xD is a 7 window tint, not 5 like most cars because the rear windows are split in two, so it normally costs a little extra.

The place I had it done was $195 for limo black, with a transferable lifetime warranty on color, fading, bubbling, peeling, scratching, etc.

I'll try to post pictures tomorrow afternoon.

i just had the Huper Optik ceramic tint put in. i like it because its not dark, it only darkened the windows a few shades. i can still see traffic at night, and it looks very nice. and the best part being in south texas in the summer, it realy cuts the heat!

Actually, DriverXa, I see a bunch of people with front windsheilds tinted Just coming home from work today at 5pm, saw a black Acura with the front windsheild tinted. The driver was like your age. Maybe New Yorkers like to break laws.

Correct.

bier9999- Ur right, alot of people do break the laws...... (shhhh, I'm one of them),lol. I have 35% front 15% rear with no problems (knock on wood) where the limit is 70% front 35% rear. If you have enough of a contrast so that the front is visibily lighter than the back and you can still see pretty good through the front the cops really won't bother you. I just know the law states that to tint the front windsheild is just flat out illegal.
