Default xD reviews hating on xA

The xD is getting great reviews so far, but at this point I haven't seen a single one that hasn't majorly hated on the xA. That makes me a little nervous.

We saw a great deal of reviews of this nature for the xB, and the new one was a major disappointment to the vast majority of Gen 1 owners. It didn't occur to us until it was too late that if the people who hated the original like the new one, it would be all but undriveable for us.

When the original xB was still new, none of the reviews were really super-positive...more along the lines of "it's a decent buy, despite the looks." Nobody was very supportive of the car. When the Gen 2's came out, all the reviewers loved it, but the only customers who are interested are in their forties and fifties, and replacing antiquated Explorers.

Now I'm seeing the beginning of that pattern with the xD. I don't know, maybe I've just been burned by the new XL xB. Thoughts? Am I making this up?

Yea, I've noticed this too...I've yet to read a test drive/first look/etc of the xD that doesn't point out how much of a "better" car it is than that "awkward" xA...

I was reading up on a lot of Scion reviews when I went to purchase my xA and ultimately went for my personal choice instead of the critics. If I had just purely went by reviews I probably wouldn't even have considered ANY Scions.

Exactly, screw the reviewers, they thought the xA would be a hit... but look at us, the bastard children of the Scion family and the xB which was supposed to be too different is numbered far too many! (In the car modding scene at least)

Well, I always hated the xA and loved the xB.

But now I really don't like the xB (I tried to like it, but alas, it looks too ugly) and I do like the xD a lot.

Aww, GROUP HUG

Come on, now, everybody knows the x-twins are the REAL Scions and the tC is the red-headed stepchild How else do you explain the... low-mount gauge cluster?

I don't see ANYTHING wrong with the xa. I drive an xb, but xa would have been my next consideration at the time I purchased. I went for the quirkiest of the two. One of my best friends bought one (just for commuting, not modifying) and he loves it. First new car he has ever owned in his life and he is about 58. He does NOT waste money and chose it over the Yaris..............How about that? He is one of those people who put 2 or 300 thousand miles on a car. He felt bad for getting rid of his '89 Mazda Protege which had about 285K on it. 200k were put on by him!!

they're doing the same thing with the xD as they're doing with the xB. it seems that all the reviews keep comparing the new one to the replacement and regardless of the facts they seem to twist words into favoring the new version. not surprising since they wont make any money by saying the older version is better in any aspect. although I'm disappointed in edmunds for selling out like that, i dont think that review was at all objective. seemed like they were being manipulated in their opinion.

one thing i dont think is any kind of comparison is the handling ability of the new xB compared to the old.

I have an xA in my garage, my girl's car, but I put probably 2-3K miles on it myself. Decent car for the money, but hopefully xD will have the refinement of the tC that xA utterly lacks. Plus it would be nice if they synchro'd the first gear (or did we get a screwed up tranny on the xA?).

xA still beats Yaris no matter how you look at it.

yeah ... gotta understand media. they're always looking at the hype, creating the hype, creating the criticism on anything and everything. car mags, even those reputable ones such as R&T, MT, C&D, all have their own opinions (esp cuz they're mixes of young and old dudes). many times they must pander to the customer's and public's interests to sell issues, and that's what they do.
now SCC, now that's a straight up magazine ...

anyway i think the xD is a different car than the xA in how the xB2 is a dfferent car than the bB. but i think the xD is a better move than the xB2.

I don't care what critics have to say about movies or cars. I know what I like. My xA has been a rock-solid great little car. We also had an xB RS 2.0. It was a good vehicle too, but it had a few characteristics that were starting to bug us, so we traded it for a Nissan Versa. Why do I still have the xA? Because I am totally happy with it.
