Default Possible clutch fail? Need help please *Update* 12/18/08 *pics*

Hey guys,
Just swap the car over to a 5 speed about 2 months ago and I may of had a clutch fail but im not sure.

I pull up to an intersection and pull it out of gear and drift up to my turn as I go to push in the clutch and push into 1st it didnt go into gear. So I was like what the hell so I pumped the clutch rear quick thinking that mabey I hit a air bubble or something. As I went to pump it I herd a grind/squeel noise and the motor cut out. So I start it up and try to put it in gear so here I am stuck in neutral with a line of cars behind me

So I just hold pressure against the shifter and the car started to drift a bit. So I was just able to get it out of the intersection. So i go to pump it again and the pedal locks down to the floor I hear the grinding noise again and the motor shut off. So I get out of the car and its smoking and smells like clutch!! So im like what the hell!!! I go and make sure the hydro and the lines to the pedal are all intact which they were.

So just to see I go ahead and try to start the car and I could hear by the way the motor was cranking it had something holding it back. Alos while turning it over I hear that grinding noise again. So finally I make sure the car was on the side of the road enough that it would be out of the way with no problem and lock it and ditch the car!! One lucky thing was that it broke down about 200 yards away from my house so I was able to walk home for the night.

The clutch only has about 1300 miles on it

sounds alot like one of the springs on the clutch disk poped out on ya....when it happend to Carlanga the spring fell between the clutch disk and pressure plate and would grind and not let him fully depress the clutch and shift. just a thought

It sounds like the clutch broke apart.

I had a Neon years ago that had some of the rivets break that held the friction material to the clutch. One of the pads flopped to one side so it was double thick in that area. The clutch had about 90000 miles on it.

If your clutch was cheap, it may have just broken apart. Was it an OEM part or aftermarket?

what clutch do you have? If the springs did pop out, or it did shatter, I would try to call the manufacturer and get a new clutch.

Well thats what I was thinking it was. I was following your story a couple months ago. I just dont know if I should put that clutch back in the car or not. If the TOB is a peice of junk what makes the clutch any better? I guess you just put the OEM TOB in it and used the same clutch?

Chris, just get an ACT. I will be running one. You should be fine with a full faced one. Or you can get the 6 puck. I've never heard anything bad about them, and Ive seen them hold big power.

Well looks like the usual cc stage 4 clutch failer. I thought this was the new verison one and it wasnt supposed to do that. Also thanks to CC it wiped out my fork my slave cylinder and possible the ****ing transmission!!! It dinged up the shaft of the trans and I dont know if it can be fixed. Damn it that ____'s me off only 1300 miles on the hole system!! Great

I went with the 6 puck witht he heavy duty pressure plate. Matt has the 6 puck with extreme duty pressure plate. You should be good with the full face and HD press. plate.
