Rumor: Hybrids will be Prius, not Toyota, brand by 2011
What this means is that after 2011 model year, there will be no hybrids carrying the Toyota badge. They will become Priuses. The styling will be "markedly different from their Toyota counterparts with unique sheet metal and hybrid powertrains." For the time being, they're dubbing the three upcoming Prius models simply as Prius A, Prius B, and Prius C. These will range in size from that of the Yaris to that of a Camry, with launches scheduled between 2009 and 2011.

thats better cuz then those owners with their fancy prius A B C wont have to affiliate themselves with those owners with those gas guzzling scions, toyotas and lexus'
but i bet their forum will suck
, especially compared to scions, they'll be talking about new glasses from lenscrafters and books
jeeeez....... lol
I think it makes sense. When people think "Prius," it is instantly associated with everything hybrids are (supposed) to stand for.
Makes more sense than Camry... then Camry Hybrid. Highlander... then Highlander hybrid.
People want a full vehicle that's a hybrid, not just a shoehorned hybrid like the Camry H/ Highlander H/ whatever.

I agree with paul... look at honda... the insight is forgotten and the civic/accord hybrid is just another civic/accord.
Move over Scion... Toyota's giving birth to a new baby prius. We're all the same family. Scion is stuck as the middle child.

This is totally against all the recent official Toyota announcements and long term plans.
All of Toyota's official information clearly states they plan to offer a Hybrid option within each line. This started with the Highlander, and is further demonstrated in the Camry redesign, as well as the new Highlander redesign.

they may get good gas mileage and be good for the environment while they are driving....but where do you think the material for the batteries comes from.....and where will it go when the car has finished it's 100K or so.

The concern with hybrids isn't with the battery, its with the wasteful use of resources in making them in the first place. We have plenty of existing technology that's been around for a couple of decades that allows cars to easily achieve 50 MPG.
And yet, Americans have been fooled into believing a car that's more expensive, needs special service, and is complicated to get "good" gas mileage.
I traded my Xa back in at the dealers a few weeks back. I got ____ed at how the mileage on it started getting worse and worse, but what can you expect from a car whose overall valuation is at around 14k. And before you start ranting on my poor maintenance habits, I babied the heck out of that car! Anyways, I am now driving a 2007 Prius Touring and not missing my Scion Xa at all except for the "neato" factor. I am actually signed up to get the extra battery pack to really tweak out my mileage. The main reason I did it was for less trips to the gas pump basically. I am getting roughly 40-50 mpg... 40 hwy, 50 city... much better starts in traffic better highway acceleration and I even get a nice computer gps to tell me where I am at! You guys probably won't understand this yet, but the economy is getting much worse than we are anticipating and you just have to react and adjust faster than normal. This change in cars was an adjustment. When we finally get the Toyota hydrogen/hybrid(in testing now), I will probably trade in my Prius gas/hybrid as well. Besides, that new car smell always gets me going!
cheers!
