xB has ABS so it shouldn't lock up unless you're below the minimum speed (3 MPH)? If you got into a severe skid (assume you weren't intentionally driving at trees), I don't know what the stability control might do to "help" get you out of it.

I bought a white 2006 Scion XB about 2 months ago. The exact same thing happened to me except that I barely avoided having a multiple car pileup on the freeway. I had to suddenly hit the brakes while going about 55 on the freeway - I'd only had the XB about a week -when I did the front right or rear right brake locked up and pulled me halfway into the lane to my right. The car to my right barely avoided me and the cars behind me slammed on their brakes. It scared the crap out of me - and everyone else around me. I got a lot of nasty looks as expected...

After this I intentionally started hitting the brakes hard and sure enough this problem was consistent. I didn't even have to hit them hard enough to lock them up to notice a heavy pull to the right.

I took the XB to the Dealership and they couldn't find a problem after the first day. I had to go back up there the next day and drive it for them. I quickly demonstrated the problem - and probably scared the crap out of the tech driving with me. They took several days to figure out what was wrong - having to call Toyota engineers to find out what to replace since there was no physical damage etc.

In the end they had to replace the ABS actuator. They said it was locking up one of the wheels. I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but it is indeed very dangerous. I'm sorry you wrecked your Scion because of it. Let me know if I can be of any assistance by providing paperwork etc on my repair etc. Did you notice four short beeps occurring when this happened? This always happened on my Scion when it locked up - it would be followed by four short beeps.

If it was proven that because of something on the car caused this accident wouldnt toyota be liable for this. Couldnt you take them to court and get a new car? Also on my 06 xa I have never had problems like that and actually the ABS works damn perfect with all these damn deer around.
