TOKYO - Toyota plans to sell 10.4 million vehicles globally in 2009, it said Friday, a sales target that would put the Japanese automaker ahead of a record set by world leader General Motors 30 years ago.

Analysts say Toyota Motor Corp. (nyse: TM - news - people ) is likely on track to beat General Motors Corp. (nyse: GM - news - people ) as the world's biggest automaker in global vehicle sales and production this year - a title Detroit-based GM has held for 76 years. ...

Toyota said Friday it aims to boost sales in North America to 3.1 million vehicles, in Asia excluding Japan to 1.9 million, and in Europe to 1.45 million.

yes they do, it's this whole idea of producing products that the customers desire, with a side of fuel efficiency

I don't want to hear anymore Toyota announcements regarding how many cars they're gonna sell until they start producing some performance cars. Phase 1 of getting me to buy a Scion was successful, so what am I supposed to move up to? I love Toyota, but come on...

I hope they come out with some more performance parts for their next line up like GM is doing for some of their cars

You see, Toyota is smart for getting rid of Performace cars and pouring all their resources into economy and family cars, because that is what sells well. Sure, we don't have our own S2000 or 3.5 L Maxima and the Supra is gone, but that's ok, cause the corollas and camrys own all of them.

I'm not an owner of Toyota stock so I don't care. All I'm asking for is 1 performance car. If it doesn't happen my next car will end up being something like a 350z or even the new Hyundai V8 coupe.
