Default Ok new PS3.. wtf?

I got myself a PS3 for X-mas and am really happy with it however... trying to get it and my TV (Sony Bravia KDL-V26BR1, HMDI ready) to talk to each other! It's not working at all I returned my first cable then bought a new one thinking it might've been the cable. Now I'm thinking its either the HDMI port on my TV or the PS3 that is bad. The whole night I've been looking all over the internet about way to get this to work, some way this method works and some say no luck.

Anyone have actual help about this? I'm going to call Playstation tomorrow as well as contact Bravia and see whats going on.

Oh and please don't tell me to get a Wii or an XBOX

dumb question.. you try to check to make sure its on the right video mode.. like ours is HDMI 1 = satellite, HDMI 2 = PS3, Component 1 = Xbox 3, Pc = Computer.. would be on the remote as something similar to tv/vcr (something like that) not looking at a remote..

Dumb yet smart question With my TV.. I can "label" Video 1-7 with: Video 1, VHS, DVD, Receiver, Satellite, Cable Box, 8mm, DTV, Game,LD, Beta, HD, DVR, Camcorder or Skip. Thats the only place in my TV menu to select the mode/input.

Now.. if you can figure which of those I should be using... I shall give you.. a ride in my xD! :O No really but I've tried most of those settings with no luck.

Select the "Cable" mode. My TV (Panasonic) clearly reads the HDMI port as "Cable" mode, component port as "Games" mode, etc.

when you turn on the ps3, and the red led light comes on. Press and hold the switch for 7-10 seconds. It will first turn green and beep, but continue to hold it, and it will flash again and beep, then it should work.

The ps3 customizes the settings to each tv. Hopefully it should work.

Yea... I tried all that and it didn't seem to see the TV or HDMI cable. Could it be busted?

once it is on, try switching in between all the inputs. as far as I know the HDMI inputs are already assigned to a specific number. On my tv at least, the HDMI inputs are 5, 6 and 7. Check ur tv manual. If none of them works I'm really sorry to say that it will be ur PS3, which will suck 4 u man. Anyways hurry up and get that bad boy running, u'll love it.

Your problem is the tv the sony bravia sucks. I was never able to get the thing to work with the HDMI due to the progresive scan that the tv doesn't have. I had to buy a new TV. good luck.

it sounds likt the problem might be your tv from readying your post.. Do you have a DvR box or another dvd player hooked up to your tv? if so disconnect everything and see what works and doesn't.. but as you can also check this I had this with my DvD player when i moved.. the tv was not getting the signal cause I did not have the cable on the DVD played pluged in all the was till it snaped in..

It's just the TV and the PS3, nothing in between. I know my TV has the ability to do HDMI since it says so in the manual and the Bravia website. There is no problem with either other than the HDMI not working for me. I'm happy to play it with the standard cables it came with but when I move out (in a year) I would like to be able to watch hi-def movies on the PS3 with just a single cable.

The TV has a 5yr warranty, got it last year, so I can take it in and see whats going on with it, if it's the TV at all. The PS3 came from a guy on eBay that has a 30day policy so I can send it back if need be.

Have you tried manually setting up the ps3 to play through the HDMI? Where you have both cables hooked up? Config it on the av input and switch it over to the HDMI input after you set it to HDMI. I had to do this on my moms TV, but its not a sony either. On my LG I didn't have to config it like that, though. Just automaticly did it.

I've cycled through all the video channels I have on my TV and the only one that sees the PS3 is Video 2 because of the composite cables I have hooked up. I've tried the manual setting of it but the screen goes blank when the PS3 tries, I guess, to talk to my TV.

scion_jon: HDMI isn't a channel setting like the Video channels are. HDMI should be able to take the place of the composite cables (red, white, and yellow) and should be seen on the same channel. Hopefully anyways.

I think I might try the Playstation phone number for more help..

Though I must say, Heavenly Sword kicks ___! :D

Uhm.. not yet? Haha. I only have three games and two I know can be played online. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Untamed and Heavenly Sword are all that I have. Sadly the Lego game REALLY lacks in instructions in the manual, in the game and online. It's fun but... i wonder if Lucas Arts is to blame for the ____ty instructions.

Didn't get a chance to call Playstation tonight. I guess I'll see what the eBay guy offers me and I'll go from there.

does ur cable box or satellite box has an hdmi output, if so just use the hdmi cable in between them and the tv. If not just borrow a dvd player (that has hdmi output) from someone and try it out. Might be a lot easier than taking ur big tv to the store.

Are you running composite cables as in red, green, and blue? Make sure the HDMI doesn't share the same input.

Got it working My manual was crap, customer support was crap. Found on another forum the answer, so stupidly simple. Apparently the manual says NOTHING about using Video 6 on the HD setting. It actually says it on the BACK of my TV... bad Sony!!

Oh well. Games look f'king awesome now! Too bad the controller doesn't vibrate or it would be very entertaining.. ;D
