Default Coilovers...

So as I wander the forums as a complete n00d to Scions, I'm seeing some similarities between owners.

What I'm seeing is that most of you opt for a spring/strut setup, as opposed to a full coilover.

So, the questions of the day are:

#1 - Why did you choose a spring/strut combo. instead of a full coilover?

#2 - What do you consider the best coilover on the market, for the price? Factoring in the ride height adjustability, ride comfort, road handling, price, etc.

easy answer. full coilovers are bankroll. with a starting price of 740 all the way up to approx 1600 . not quite a cheap mod. just about everybody knows that coilovers are better in many more ways than one but. not many people can either afford them or cannot justify such a high price when to many people a nice spring setup is good enough. that and a somewhat big group dont want a really low car(mostly older owners or daily drivers). I would love to have a nice coilover setup and i'm sure one day i will own a SET. BUT UNTILL THEN... sorry bout the caps hit it by accident lol.

I see...

I guess I always feel the need for coilovers. My Mk4 had 15" steelies, then 15" Ace wheels, then 16" stock wheels, then 17x10's in the rear, then a set of 17x8.5" 3-piece wheels, and then a set of 18x8 Advan knock-offs. I guess I'm just a wheel *****.

But I always feel the need for coilovers. I guess my opinion is that no kit, no seats, no system, and no paint can make a car look good if the wheels are crappy, and the stance sucks.

Any advise on a set of good coilovers with a really low adjustability? (ie. low to the ground, not small adjustability).

I suppose I should have rephrased.

I owned a Mk4 Jetta, not Supra.

Sorry sorry.

If you are looking for big drop I would say either HKS or Cusco. I have the HKS Hipermax- C and have about 3.5" drop dialed in. I could go almost half an inch further in the back and way more up front. Of the two, HKS drops a bit further and has a greater range of adjustability. However, the Cusco have a higher spring rate and are a bit stiffer.

when i bought my scion, only ones that were available were JDM spec ones which would take 3 months to get here and cost and are and a leg..AND are pretty much race oriented coilovers. i'm not racing the box. IMO no point. i didnt buy it go fast. springs were available. so i got those..

Spy springs were 2 inch drop. According to some, the first gen Spy springs were 2.5 inches. I have yet to see that. I had Spy springs the first week I had my xB, but now I';m on TEIN Wagon coilovers that were made for the bB and the first set imported into the US.

no offense prettym1k3, but yet another coilover question thread??? i thought you mods loved to kill these "redundant" threads??? where the smart a** with the usual, "did you try SEARCH" comment...??? be consistent! nobody likes an ump that has a wide or narrow strike zone...get it?!?

to answer your question prettym...i would say, and have said, that the best compromise between stance and comfort are the tein's. they are really comfy, and the price is very reasonable...starting somewhere near $700 if you look hard enough. for my taste, they just dont go low enough...

btw-i had KW Coilovers on my '02 VW GTI VR6. i totally agree with you about the stance (i call profile).

HKS were $1,185

Not sure about the Cusco, but the HKS do come with pillowball mounts. I know that Cusco makes pillowball mounts that you can purchase on a standalone basis, but I am not sure if they include them with the coilovers. What's cool about the Cusco mounts is that they have chamber adjustability. The pillowballs that come with the HKS do not.
