Today on two seperate occasions I had the brake light in the dash light up on me, directly after WOT acceleration. The light went off after I came to a complete stop. I'm wondering if this is a common issue with this car. I just serviced the car over the last weekend, and I inspected all brake lines, brakes, tires etc. Any TSBs on this? I tried searching the forum and found nothing. Thanks.

 

you check your brake pads?

 

Yeah brake pads still had a good deal of friction pad on them. Left side had about 1/8" and right side had about 3/16".

 

check your brake fluid, thats usually the sensor in the reservoir letting you know that it needs a refill.

1/8"?!?! yeah man.... you're due to change pads.

 

Time for some front pads, thats why the fluid is low. Look in the reservoir you will probably see the fluid close to the "MIN" level. When you install the new pads & push the caliper piston back in the fluid "should" return to the "MAX" level.

 

yea... if you refill your fluid blindly.... when it comes time to change your pads...

(which technically should be now)... that reservoir is gonna overflow and uhh... brake fluid isn't good for paint and other things last time i heard..

 

sounds to me like the brake resevior is getting low on fluid...but also to if it only at wide open throttle it could be the alternator not charging causing the light to come on..it on the sme circuit as the brake light...but double check the brake fluid first...

 

Sorry guys, but the brake fluid is fine. It's just under the max marker.

Also, wear limit on the pads is .04", which is quite less than .125".

Thanks for the suggestions, including that on the altenator. I will run a check on it at work tomorrow.

 

If it is the parking brake light, the WOT could be causing the g-force to pull back on the parking brake assembly just enough to make it think the parking brake is on, and trip the light. Then when you brake and come to a halt everything shifts again and the light goes out.
If that is the case you can check the adjustment of the switch for the parking brake, and/or loosen the parking brake cables slightly.

 

I was kindof thinking that. When the light came on, I tried playing with the handbrake and tried tapping the brakes. The light would not go out until I came to a complete dead stop. I have not had a problem since the other day though...

 

Just to add to your comments, i have a tC and I just ran into the same problem. But my light doesn't stay on as long as yours. It only stays on at WOT and then goes out when i let go of the accelerator.......

 

After work yesterday, I checked out my brake fluid level and it was just above min. While driving, I kept flooring the gas to see if the brake light would come on, and it did at WOT. It only comes on when the car accelerates fast. This morning i went to Autozone and bought some brake fluid. Filled it up to just about max and took the car for a test drive. No more brake light. SLIM187, you were right for my situation on the brake fluid reservoir being low. Thanks.......

 

..... did you bother to even check your brake pads first?

you need to know why your brake reservoir level was low you know.
