Default Please Fix My Ride: Hatch Rattle

know this has come up a dozen times, but I've not had a problem until now.

My car's hatch creaks & vibrates like Tila Tequila's box spring mattress and I want it to stop!

If you've stopped trunk rattle, please list how you've done so. If you have a solution that does not involve unbolting the entire hatch, please list it on this thread.

and this is something i do not want to involve the dealership with

y?

good luck then. there is no magic bullet. so far as i know. some people claim to have had success to varying degrees. i've already had 2 TSBS (replace hatch struts, and replace bumper stops and hammer down latch) performed, as well as some of my own sound-proofing and such...... its worse than ever. i want to kill myself while i'm driving. :D

Try this thread from the tech section?

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=79677

I am starting to hear rattles from the rear. When I press against the spot indicated on the thread, the noise stop. When I release, the rattles resume. I'm confident that this is my problem. Perhaps you should give it a shot. I am going to fix mine for good over the weekend.

dropped my car off this morning, was quoted $79 just to DIAGNOSE the rattle.....

at this point, what am i gonna do? i've done as much DIY diagnosing and bandaging as I care to do at this point, and i absolutely cannot stand to drive the car with how loud and constant the rattle is.

nope. the basic warranty is up to 36K. i'm at 52k or something. Eventhough i first complained about it within the 36K mark and the two previous attempted TSB/fixes didn't work.... i'm gonna argue that though.

just another great example of how scion doesn't stand behind their products. it was obviously defective from the factory. I didn't do anything to the car to cause it..... yet still i have to pay for it. BS.

update: so the tech drove it around, and said he heard a few minor rattles, nothing out of the ordinary....plus, "theres been some modifications done (lowered and subwoofers), so, you know...."

I hung up and called 1800 70 Scion. Explained to them that i had the "infamous hatch rattle" yet this rattle is louder than my stereo and absolutely unbearable.

They're supposedly going to send a tech specialist out to check it out.

i doubt they even pulled any of the interior trim panels to try to see what was going on. All they had to do was pull the piece with the seat belt dispenser, and i'm pretty sure they would have figured it out.

I LOVE SCION DEALERSHIP SERVICE!!! WOOT WOOT!

i've done all that. i don't think this rattle is even from the hatch. pretty sure its from behind the panel where the seat belt dispenser is...... i'm about to just go rip that panel off and burn it.

thats the idea, cept i have to finish paying it off and fixing my unresolved issues (clutch and hatch rattle) before i can sell it and before anyone would want to buy it.

g35 is a dream car of mine, but rwd wouldn't be very practical where i live, doesn't snow that much, when it does, i would not be able to get back and forth to work.

i'm looking to boosted FWD (mkiv gti or mazdaspeed3 or a K20 car) or AWD (S4, mkiv R32, mazdaspeed6)....
