Hey whats up guys,

I have some practically brand new tires from my 2003 Eclipse { 225/40/18} which I traded in for my xB , and was wondering if I would have rubbing issues by putting them on my xB.

My xB is still at stock ride height but plan on lowering mildly.


BTW i did a search with no real help.

FYI, our fitment team recommends the following sizes for n"Non-Lowered" vehicles:

Tire Size / Overall Diameter
215/35-18 / 23.9"
225/35-18 / 24.2"

The 225/40-18 come in at 25.1 inches in diameter, so they are a little taller than recommend and more than likely, will cause some rubbing issues!

 

It depends more on the rim itself than the tire.
Width and offset will determine if it rubs or not.
I would dare to say that if you stay with 18X7 wheels, 225/40/18 will fit w/o trouble.

 

I'd really like to use my tires since they have tons of tread left on them. But I'd like to at least pull off a TRD drop with them.
What offset wheel would I have to get ?
As far as a 18x7 wheel I havent really seen them , I see mostly 18x7.5, will that be fine too ?
Once I bald out these tires ,at that point I would purchase 215/40/18, but it could be a few years til then.

mine are 18X8 with a +42 offset.
I think if you get a 18X7.5 with a +42 or lower offset (35 or so) will work fine.
Mine rub a little at full turn, but that's because they are 8" wide.

Honestly I don't think it's that much of a problem. You are only at full turn at parking lots and such and you are always going very slowly.
I am willing to put up with it for the look of the wider tires.

 

if your offsets are too high just dump in some 5mm spacers and your problem should be solved.

 

Any pictures of the car, especially showing clearance?

Were does it rub, on the fender, or the suspension?

 

yeah i had these tires on my xB and they rubbed...i had the Eibach drop too...which is less than 2 inches so i think with a Goldline drop there will be more rubbing. i just bought some 215/35/18 and they do not rub at all..

The rear need spacers for sure. Have those tires on now. The front rubs on the fender liner. Switched my front to 215/35/18. But used the 225/40 till they needed replaced. Still using 225 on rear with spacer and no rub at all.

 

And those only rub when your turn, right?

I'm thinking that it should be safe to assume they'll rub under full suspension compression too, right? Say around an offramp under high G and hitting a bump or dip?

 

Mostly when I turn yes. Springs are tanabe df210. About a 2.2" Drop. I think a 225/35 would work because it is the top of the tread that hits mostly on the 40 series. The rear doesn' t hit at all anymore with the spacers. Even mashin around a off ramp.
