Default wheel and tire protection program

have you guys heard of this yet? i bought this through my dealer for $199. and i think it is well worth the money. it is a one time fee and zero deductible. 5 years/ unlimited miles. obiviously it protects your investment.

what it covers:
1.it repair and/ replacement of tire. so if you get a nail in your tire at anytime during the 5years you can bring it back to the dealer at no cost. if the tire cannot be fixed (i.e. nail in sidewall) they will replace the tire with the nail with a brand new one.

2.this is also true for the wheels/rims, if you accidentally hit a major pothole and bend one of the wheels to a point in which it cannot hold air. they will either repair it or replace the wheel with a new one.

3.here is the good part of the deal, it not only covers the factory wheels(ex. scion tc wheels) but will cover any aftermarket wheel and tire package!!! (up to $2,500) so if you put 20" wheels on your car, and bend one of them. they will either fix it or replace it for free. but if it is a wheels that is discontinued. they will pay you the price of that wheel. :D

so you guys are probably wondering... whats the catch? the only catch is that the owner must maintain proper air pressure on the tires, with a minimum of 3/32" tread depth. it also does not cover racing tires, any vehicle involved in an accident. acts of god, vandalism, floods or fires. commercial vehicles, on roads NOT regularly maintained. and also normal tire wear will not be covered.

its a pretty damn good deal for 199.

so it just covers damaged tires? you would have to blow out two tires over the course of 5 years for it to pay off.

yes, it does cover the tires. if you get a nail in the tire. they will pull it and plug it for free. if they can't fix it, they will swap it for a new one. you can have any other tire brand as well. I.E. toyo T1-s, yokohama parada's.. etc. and if your wheels get damaged. they will repair it or replace it.

lets just say you have $2000 wheels from volks and you bend one of the wheels and it can not hold air anymore. what can you do? replace it for $500? or have the wheel protection to have it fixed/replaced for free? or possibly, if they cannot replace it, they will give you money. :D

It's just insurance. The insuror is betting that his outlay for repairs and replacements will be less than the money you pay.

If you have fragile tires/wheels and like to hit potholes, it might be worth it. For most folks, it isn't.

What constitutes "Racing tires"? I know when I got my Sumitomo's at Big O, they wouldn't offer road hazard on anything below a 50 series...

im not sure what they mean by racing tires. they are probably reffering to drag radials and/or competition race tires.

i would assume drag radials as well. hey, if you clip a curb, this is a good deal. insurance is for peace of mind.

I'm sure there is some fine print loop-hole that they can screw you with. But for 200 bucks, if they actually follow through, it would be worth it.

so far, its working out pretty good. i got a nail in my driver side rear tire about a month ago. and they fixed it at no charge. i went back to the dealer today because there was a screw on my front right tire. the screw was pretty close to the side wall, so instead of just patching the tire. my service advisor(my friend's uncle) said they will just order a new tire. so i have to go back to the dealership tomorrow morning to get the new tire mounted.

imo, it will be worth it in the long run. 5 years/ unlimited miles. good deal to me.

why on earth would they warrant non stock tires and wheels? they would lose way too much money with that. ins companies are in business to make money not just warrant anything and everything. io can almost guarantee that it covers only said wheels and tires. probably only the set that came with teh car aftermarket or not. not just any old tires from joe-blow that u put on the car 3 years down the road. or some 19's with rubberbands.

so i went to the dealership today and got a brand new tire that replaced the one with the screw. the program paid for it. i also asked my friends uncle if the plan also covered aftermarket wheels and tires. he told me it ONLY covered the stock wheels and tires.

so i guess my SALES MANAGER LIED TO MY FACE about the program covering aftermarket wheels and tires. i was about to turn this plan down when i was buying my car, until he said it also covers aftermarket wheels/tires. i asked him several questions/ situations about non factory wheels and he said it WILL be covered. this is what my sales manager said at the time of vehicle purchase, "the program will cover any wheel/tire package that is mounted/installed on the car and also includes aftermarket wheels as well *smiles* "

hotbox05, yeah, it's too good to be true. oh well, at least if i ever get anymore nails in my tire, they will fix it for free :D

A few things.

1. Race tires are typically any tire with an R rated.
examples:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/types/comp.jsp

2. If you feel you've been mislead during the buying process into buying something you didn't want, you CAN get them to give you a refund if you _____ strongly (notice I didn't say loudly) and smartly. My dealer told me some stuff that got me to add $1000 to my bill for a service, but I later found out was horsesh*t. I pointed it out to him and his manager. Next day I had a check in my hand for $1000+tax.

Note also, you didn't really pay $199 for it. You since you probably included that with your finance, assuming 5yrs @ 9% = a real amount of $247.85 not including tax. (so in reality, ~$260)

About the price of 2 brand new tires and maybe the cost of a wheel. So my friend, you've even if you don't use it, you've already bought the tires and damaged wheel.

3. Fixing a tire that had a nail or screw in it is extremely easy and when done right, will last the life of the tire. I've put nails in 2x Kuhmo V700 race tires before in my Z. Patched them up myself and they lasted till the time I corded them. I still autoxed and took them on the race track too. btw, tire shops will not plug race tires, so you HAVE to do them yourself.

Fixing them is very fairly easy, and can be done very quickly. During an autox once, I plugged a flat in <5min. That includes jacking the car up, plugging, reinstalling, dropping and inflating. And didn't miss a run. A buddy just happen to take pictures of the fast moving pit action!

before nail:

fixing!

FIXED!

Also, LEARN how to plug a tire if you don't know. Believe me, one day, you'll get stuck and you'll be glad you did! Plus, it'll save you money. I always keep a kit in my car!

yeah, i should learn how to plug a tire myself. any info on how to do it properly? thanks

ya, nice link. Something else, if the whole is big enough, or if your really worried, use more than one plug. That what I did with the race tire because I was so worried that it my leak or pop.
