Default Wedding Gift....need help! Chime in

So my brothers wedding is within a few months and I want to give him an amazing gift as a celebration of his marriage. He and I both have a cartier watch, we both love automatic styles, and chronographs soo I was thinking about getting him just an all out baller watch as a gift. But I don't know which one exactly to get. Im looking at spending anywhere between 1k and 5k or so....

Or any other great ideas for such an occasion please do chime in. pics/links/referrals are all welcome at this time!!!

The Tag Heuer Grand Carrera is amazing. I am not sure how much it is but its nice! Also maybe inscribe the date of the wedding on it or something that says best of luck in you new path. Ya know something personal that will always remind him it was a gift for his wedding.

Or find a nice watch around 1000 or 2000 that has a woman's to match and get them matching watches so whenever they wear them it reminds them of your wedding gift to them.

Watches are an awesome investment, and a great gift because of that. Most middle-to-high end ones like you are thinking about will never lose their value. That being said, I'm totally for a watch for a great gift, but I am against engraving it.

I was thinking about going that route...but not to be greedy and all, but I want to go all out on my brother- cuz he is and always will be my big brother and it's kind of me giving him away to my sister-in-law.

- as for the engraving: im 50/50 on it as well. I think something short and sweet would be great, but if its an automatic that is about $3,500+ then maybe no engraving would be better.

MORE IDEAS PLEASE DO CHIME IN. this is my first wedding and being the best man and all makes it more difficult for a killer gift for a big brother from the 'little one' in the family

One thing you dont wanna do...is blow more loot on a gift for your brother than the Bride.....I would check with her to see what she is getting him, unless they decided on no gifts for each other..........

If all else fails, you could always give him a box full of VHS **** and a Fleshlight!

Hi Geoff,

Lots of things to think about my friend. Choosing a watch for another person can be pretty tough unless you know a few of the basics. I have more watches than I have sense, so you have come to the right place.

You have to give a little more input. First thing first:

Dress watch active watch or all around daily watch?

Is he tough on his watches, bang them around a lot?

Does he have a lot of other timepieces to match certain looks?

Do you want a neutral color like black or white?

With a budget of 5k you have a lot of options open to you. I personally love Tag Heuer. I think they are a well made watch for the money. The Grand Carrera will cost you between 3-6k depending on if you want something certified and if its a chrono or not.

Other top brands you can consider are Breitling, Omega, IWC, Ulysse Nardin and of course Rolex, although I am not a fan of them since they are priced more for the name than the quality.

I will post a couple pics of some of my collection which are all automatics so you can get an idea of the style you think he will like.

Let me know what you think and I can probably get you a crazy good deal.

man, what is it with people giving people watches? i keep getting them from my older brother and dad, and i look up the price, and i'm like SHEESH! and never ever wear it. i would be so upset if i scratched one, and well...not nearly all of them have dead batteries, some of them are so complicted, i can't even read the time, or see figure out how to set them.

get him something more useful. a ps3 or some appliances for his wife to better serve him.
