Gas Saving Myths...
I was on Yahoo this morning and came across this. Thought I would share and see what anyone else had to say about it. It's not that long, so take a look.

There is some truth to what the report says BUT I felt it was an irresponsible report from someone not very educated in automotive maintanence. Number 1 downplaing the advice to change your air filter WTF is up with that...."it only helps your engine breath better". That's freakin important...thats like saying hey we can make an olympic runner still run a marathon but lets make him breathe through a straw this time. Anyway...carry on.
I can agree most of what that report says is a myth except the whole premium gas and air filter thing. If you have a performance care that REQUIRES premium it will run like crap on regular.
replacement of the air filter is essential specifically for performance and mileage. no air = less energy sourced from the gas used = ECU going "wtf?!" and putting more fuel to make the targeted power = less mileage.
fuel ratings are there for a reason. you don't put premium in a vehicle that's suppose to take regular. premium burns much cleaner, yes, but does not carry the mileage energy, it's purely performance based. if you put regular in a premium based vehicle, the timing is going to retard it's self SO MUCH that it's going to feel like you're driving your vehicle at 15,000 feet above sea level.
tire pressure is close. i have all my stock tires sitting at 38psi for both mileage and performance. i've had fun with a good handful of other xB's that had stock wheels on and it's clear while looking in the mirror that the 30psi setting isn't that great for cornering. the down sides to this, there is a little more tire hop if i'm trying to do a proper lunch so i have to rev a little higher then normal before dropping the clutch and it adds a very small amount of road noise. issues that a skilled driver can handle without much trouble.

i agree with what you guys are saying. i also think it's off that the editor of this article puts so much faith in the competitive nature of oil companies and manufacturers by saying if they could make more efficent gas and autos they would. WHAT?!?! they're doing exactly the opposite by sneaking 10% to 15% ethanol into our gas. that actually hurts gas milage, and they keep raising the price per gallon for this less efficient fuel. unfortunately there's no alternative around here. there's not enough competition in the industry. they're all owned by the same 3 conglomerates who strike deals with each other to maximize their profits. i'm not saying that those devices and pour-ins actually work, but i think to conclude they don't simply because, "if it worked, the oil companies and auto manufacturers would have already included it" is BS and irresponsible journalism.
My buddy at work stuck a hydrogen generator in his RX-8. I really hate this crap. Now people are figuring how to save gas instead of how to add hp. It's like drag racing for nerds... whoever goes farthest wins. This whole gas thing is just going to kill the launch of the Camaro.

also, you can't really hate on it that much. yes adding power is pretty bada$$, problem is, you use more fuel to do so. to create more power, you need more fuel thus less efficient.
then again, half the reason why gas prices are so high is because of the Bush family still in office. a MAJOR portion of their income comes from oil taxing. and because elections are to be fully in soon. they are trying to tap as much as they can out of the country before they are out of office. i wouldn't be surprised to see gas prices drop by half what they are now when they are no longer in office...
