Default Why rough? TRD Springs and Monroe all around..

I just finished installing the Monroe shocks and struts TRD springs, TRD sway Bar and End link Bushings. I ride on 16 inch Rota grids and 205 50 16 BFG all around.

My question is that I assumed since I was using 16 inch rims and a limited drop by the TRD's that the Monroes would stay in they're optimal operating zone, Though the ride seems just as stiff as stock if not more.

Do I need different springs or something else? The TRD's give me the drop I want to avoid potholes and curbs so I don't really want to go any lower

The TRD springs are notoriously stiff.

^^^ agreed. TRD are stiff for handling, so even with those monroes in, i bet you're feeling the springs before you get into that "cushion zone" of the monroes.

You should of gotten the Tanabe NF210's way better then the TRD's.

Should lookin into a set of eibachs. Progressive spring rate will give you the best of both worlds...smooth ride and excellenct cornering.

which springs will give me about the same drop of the trd with a better ride?

I love not having to worry about dips or curbs

PS i love the cornering though, what a difference

lowering any vehicle stiffens the ride, no matter what brand

thanks big bird but I was well informed that ANY aftermarket lowering spring will stiffen the ride.

my question was which springs will give me about the same drop without the stiff ride of the trds

Nah, that is more drop than he wants. Should have gotten the Tein H tech like I have. They work perfect with my monroes to soak up the bumps that the TRDs transfer to the riders.

i have the tein htechs as well.
the drop after settling will be around 1.3" F/R while the TRD is supposedly around <1" after settling.

i got mine from jscspeed.com (have gotten other parts from them as well, reliable shop).

I have TRD springs and the stock KYB struts my car rides like fred flintstone's car!!!! Ive always hear the best struts for the TDR springs are the TRD struts they are valved to work with those springs. and they are not that much more than monroes. I got lucky I have a friend that works at toyota in the parts dept he gives me evrything at his cost he told me when im ready to replace my struts he'll give me the TRD's for $300 for all 4 . I heard the monroes run like $90 each.

haha actually i dont. my SN is actually from my old one that i used to use everywhere: evoskyline. basically, the evo and the skyline are two of my favorite cars of all time. i would love to be able to own an evo9 MR someday ...

to answer your questions, i dont really scrape anything with the HTechs. if you're going up a steep driveway or have a loaded car, you'll probably scrape a TINY bit over those sharp bumps, but in everday driving, it's good to go.
with handling, it was definitely improved since you're lower to the ground. the softness of the HTechs actually compliment the ride better i think because even though they have a softer rating in the front than the stock springs, they still feel very planted and give good handling response. i have the following suspension parts:

Tein HTechs
OEM hotchkis front strut bar
cusco type II frame brace
progress rear sway
OEM 18" TRD's w/ pirelli pzero nero m+s

this combo is great, but i know i can improve it with upgraded bushings and some other bracing ...

oh i also drive without the spare tire. probably bad habit, but whatever.

if you have any tips/advice for buying an evo or the evo world in general, let me know!

hope that helps.

Actual drop from my H techs was more like 1.25 F & R. I took measurements before and after to confirm.

Originally yes but they settled fast. I can tell everytime I use my floor jack. It just about touches the sideskirt when I roll it underneath the same way it did with the Hotchkis springs that were 1.5 -1.6 drop.
