Nevermind..I found the answer to my own question. My previous car, was a VW New Beetle. It turns out, based on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that the Insurance losses for the VW NB was among the lowest (http://www.iihs.org/research/hldi/co...&sz=2&sort=all).

They don't have data for the 07-08 model years yet, but based on the data for xB1 (http://www.iihs.org/research/hldi/co...&sz=1&sort=all) I can see why my premium would jump by 25%.

The insurance loss for the xB1 is average, while it's below average for the VW NB.

But it's good to know that the xB2 has excellent overall crashworthiness. This only reinforces the idea that I made a good choice for my family car.

I realize you were joking, but has there even been a single accident attributed to this condition?

I see people shrieking all the time about the SAFETY DEFECT OHHHNOOOEEZZ but as nearly as I can determine, not a single dollar has been ever been lost on this continent due to this arrangement.

It's one of the few things that makes the xB2 distinctive - what's with the violent objections?
...or did I just answer my own question?

lol, no, it hasn't bothered me, but i did realize one day when i was backing out of a bank spot, and there was a guy 2 cars down from me on my passenger-side also backing out, that he couldn't see my reverse light.
