Default broken hatch panel. please help !!1

the other day it was like 18 degrees. i go to open my trunk , pull the hatch open and the panel that holds the latch broke right off my car. i called my dealer and they have no idea what im talking about. can anyone help me with this. ive read some other forms this seems to be a common problem, especially in the cold weather.

Your talking about the garnish.

I always slip my right index finger under the bottom edge of the hatch and lift there rather than use the garnish piece with the button. Yes it is a frequent piece to break, 4 plastic nubs that the screws attach to.

Glad I don't have to worry about that. Oh well, even if it does happen, I have more that one at my house....and I'm not talking about the stock one. I found a company that molded a garnish for me for close to $1000. Now all I have to do is primer, paint, and clear coat them. Expensive to get the mold done.....but well worth it!

Would be sick if someone had a way to scan the piece in 3D and then use a CNC 5 axis to cut one out of aluminum. Maybe even have it set up so you could do some custom writing on it instead of the Scion emblem? An all aluminum garnish I think would last the life of the car rather than a few months.

i always pressed the button then lifted from the bottom of the trunk but one day when it was really cold i just barely put pressure on it to help me and it snapped off....i was ____ed too! but it was ok cause i had the emblem ripped off and smoothen out for the price of the part so it was worth it!

Thank you. After nearly five years, mine just broke. Got the packing tape holding things together. BTW, my friend saw another TC driving around with the tape fix too.
