I love my 17s -- review after 6 months
I got an `06 Xb last summer with stock wheels and worn out tires. Within a couple weeks, I picked up a set of wheels and tires from a scionlife forum member. When I was looking for wheels, no one really told me about how good they were.
Now, 17 inch wheels are only passable sexy, but they were advertised for less than just buying replacement tires...
Wheels are Konig Runaways, 17x7 and the gray is a great match for my silver box. It's a clean look that "belongs" on the car, not stand-out, or flashy. Well, not much else to say about them -- they hold the tires up and the air in.
The tires are 215/40-17 Falken ze912. When I got these, I didn't really know what to expect. I believe the road noise is comparable to the original tires, maybe only a touch louder. I do believe that more vibration is passed through to the car. The tires are a great match for the wheels; they seem just about even with the rim. 225s might fit?? Got me.
But the handling? Holy wow! My box is on rails. The car absolutely sticks through turns, obviously better than the Ford Focus ZX3 I had (my last car) and is approaching the lunacy that is my ex's miata speed. But it's not quite like the speed, so work up to your heroics slowly. I think I'm 10 or 12 thousand miles into them and the tires look great. For as well as they stick, I feared they wouldn't last.
I've hit all kinds of normal road abuse... the worst being some chunked top layer of asphalt that's on my commute. It was nasty-loud and I wouldn't have been surprised if it would have flattened the tire. It came through perfectly fine. Sweet.
I like them and have no regrets. Would I blow the dough to buy all of this new? Not sure... there isn't much spare $ around here. But if the $ works for you or you find a great deal like I did, go for it.

ps - the links above are just to show the parts, I didn't buy from those companies -- again were purchased from a forum member via the classified section.

ive also got a set of the 912 and ive been very happy with them, great tire.
17" wheels are also a great choice, the bigger wheel you go with the more you will feal every bump in the road.

Ok, so I got my box washed today for you guys!

Yeah, I'm pretty content to leave it mostly stock. I might need to $ell it for the $ in a few months. I had a couple of full size vans that I had to sell off due to the economy, and if needed to keep my biz running, I'll sell my "better" vehicles.
I'm not too proud to drive a cheap car, so long as it is sound. I've always wanted one of these, too:

Only now that they're like 15+ years old, I might have waited too long. ;)

Nothing wrong with stock!
My box is stock aside from some shorter springs and wheels!
I bought it for the MPG and the amazing cargo ability.
Still can't find another car on the road that rivels the box.
Cube? too small
Soul? same deal
Element? too big
xD? Roof too low.
new xB? Should we even call it an 'xB'?

OMG - I just bought a new dryer today ...
Yup, the Box just sucked it up inside. These cars are great. And I agree, the Xb stopped in 2006. I'm not sure what that other thing is, but I'm sure my new dryer wouldn't have fit!
