So I've had this lower grill sitting in the bedroom for what seems like 3 or 4 months. I finally got off my butt today and decided to attempt this mod.

At first things went slowly because I wanted to figure out if I wanted to retain the chrome piece or not. I finally decided on keeping it, and had to figure out where to cut. The whole project took about 4 hours and cost me $5.xx for Loctite Gel Epoxy.. besides cost of the grill.

Overall I've very happy with it. We'll see how long the epoxy lasts..

 

DIY? Looks really good!

 

I didn't follow any DIY, but if you mean if I have one, sorry I didn't document it. Here's what I did though..

Took the grill apart.

Cut the mesh part of the stock grill out - leaving only the outside.

Placed stock grill insert over bottom grill and marked the cut points on the lower grill

Cut the lower grill, using the bottom of the lower grill as the bottom of the new upper grill.

If I would have done it again, I would've measured to get the exact height I need.. as of right now the top doesn't really touch the edge.

Once the grill is cut to size, I used epoxy to hold the new grill insert to the rest of the grill.

 

Yeah I was gonna see if you took pics during the process! I need to do this too, but have been unsure and don't want to screw it up. Did you just sand down the epoxy afterwards and re-paint the grill?

 

No sanding of the epoxy was necessary since I didn't overdo it.

I didn't paint the grill either.. it looked fine stock.

This is just something temporary - I may get VRDs in the future.. not sure though.

 

All you need to do now is paint that white thing in the middle of the upper grill.

But it looks really good thats one clean sw

 

I know! I wanted to do it today, but it was starting to get a little late. I'll be doing that some time in the future for sure.. flat black.

i did take some during it, its really not as hard as everyone thinks, once you start, youll realize it.

 

yeah I drilled out my driver's lower vent for my intake (best cheapest mod you can do w/a CAI equiped car). It wasn't that bad but took and hour and a got a lod of headshaking from my friends .

 

do you mean where the little thing where the VRD fogs go in? or you hacked up half the lower grill?

 

Where the VRD goes...left the raised parts just driled out the diamond shaped holes out of most of it.

I wanted to keep it somewhat stock looking, I ran like that for awhile but wanted to keep some sort of block in there to keep leaves and crap out, plus we get a lot of rain up here so at least its something?

 

Yeah I see what you mean. Some horizontal slits with a dremel would do the trick too.
