I need some opinion please. I am currently running 205/45R-17 now. The road condition in NYC is just horrible. potholes are just everywhere.... I am wondering is there any big improvement of the quality of ride if I change to 205/50/R-16 with new sets of 16" rims

not really, you'll still be running a low profile and a fairly wide stance. when i drive in the city i just bite my lip and hope for the best. or just run steely's till the winter is over.

 

According to the tire size calculator you'll only gain .4" in sidewall height, which isn't much.

 

It will be better but not much. Look into something like a 195/60/15 instead for those crappy streets.

 

Looks like 15 is the best way .... what tire size do you guys recommend ? 195/60/15 ? 195/55/15 ? 195/50/15 ?

Hello? You need sidewall. The size I gave is the size you need. Otherwise why bother if you are gonna try low profile 15"s?
Use a tire size calculator and see what I'm talking about. If you compare those other 2 15" sizes you will see how close they are to the sizes you are trying to avoid.

 

Get a 60 sidewall with 15s. Not only will they ride better, but they'll also fill the wheel well.
