Default HELP!!! VIOLENT SHAKING

ok so yesterday we had a freak snow storm and i happened to be at a friends house and i hate the weather guy so i really dint know it was suposed to snow that much so i dint go home. so i got snowed in at her place. the next morning after clearing off the car i some how got it out of the snow and got home. i had to rock the car a bit but it was all good. this morning on my way to work im doing about 40 mph up until i get on the highway. as soon as i get on the exit ramp and speed up the car starts shaking violently as soon as i hit 50 mph, and i mean violently im bouncing up an down the spare change i keep in my door handle is jingling like crazy. i immediately pull over. i give the car a once over as best as i can and see nothing. i broke my tire gauge so i could not get a reading on my air pressure so i cleaned the extra snow off my rims, in a last ditch attempt to think about the problem i thot the snow was throwing off the balance of the rims. i get back on the highway and no its not going away. is there anything im over looking? what else besides the snow could be causing this problem...

You could have a seperated belt in a tire

Dose it only happen at high speed? or can you feel it a slow speeds as well?

wow be careful. sounds like an unbalanced wheel. when you get a chance just try and check for caked on snow on the wheel. it can also be a bent wheel. I would have a violent shake in a wheel if it was bent to a degree that can only be really severely felt at speed. or maybe debris in the brake system or a locked down calaper. i had that on a 5 series BMW.

That sounds to me to possibly be an oscillation issue. If I were you I would have the most common things checked first. with all the moisture from the snow... I would check to see if some of your wheel balancing weights didnt come off. That would be the most common thing to happen. If your wheel is out of balance from even a single missing weight....you will notice the oscillation at certain speeds...its a harmonious thing... that's why you only notice it at certain speeds.
hope that helps. and if the shop checks your wheels to see if one or more lost a weight..and that's not the case...well they'll have it up in the air to see if something came loose from rocking back and forth getting your car out. Unless you rocked pretty violently getting your car out... it most likely a missing weight.

glad to help! now once you get a chance to rotate your tires, make sure you get them balanced because even driving a few miles on unbalanced tires (in this case ice build up) the balance may be off again. just something to think about when you get them rotated when you do.
