Default LED Load Resistor Modification

I recently added LEDs in place of my turn signal bulb and am experiencing rapid flash blinking.

I have spoke with gan777 about this, since he has done the same type of setup, but instead he replaced the entire flasher unit.

I am interested in finding out what I need to do to wire in a resistor parallel to the bulb on the bulb harness.

Last night I went to radio shack and picked up a 10ohm, 10 watt wirewound resistor and spliced into the hot and ground parallel to the bulb on the harness. However, there were three colored wires. Green (which I found to be the hot wire), white with a black stripe (which I found to be ground) and a different color which I couldn't figure out what it was.

Anyways, I had no success once I hooked them up. They still blinked fast. I even tried using the green wire (hot) and the other color wire (the one which I didn't know what it did) and that ended up changing the color of the LEDs to amber all the time (which is not what I want, lol).

Does anyone have any experience with this? For some reason, I think I might have gotten a too weak resistor.

Id get the new flasher. Why use ultra efficient lamps if you are dumping the saved energy into heat to a resistor?

Just do a search on google, they do sell such a thing for led ugrades.

The truck shop I use to work at wired a second socket in series to the lamped one under the body to give enough load.

What are you expecting to happen with the resistor there in parallel with the bulb? It will take the path of least resistance, probably being the bulb, even if it was split evenly with the resistor you'd just make the bulb dimmer.

I don't know much about wiring and what not, but I was told running a resistor parallel to the circuit would trick the computer into thinking the same load from a regular bulb was being pulled, thus stopping the fast blinking.

I know there is a way to do it, but I don't think anyone really knows. So I will prob just buy the damn thing and take it from there. Oh well.

Hmmm....looks interesting to me. I wonder if Radioshack has a 6 ohm 50 watt resistor.

Thanks alot bud.

I went ahead and bought the Flasher replacement from V-LEDs and it works fine. Very very fast shipping! I ordered it Tuesday and it arrived today. I paid $21.00 shipped.

I clipped the two clips so it fit perfect. And like usual, they don't flash when I lock or unlock my car. But thats ok, makes my car less noticable to thieves in a dark parking lot.

Yeah, I turn off my dome light for that very reason, learned it from the cops. Glad to hear you did it the right way vs just installing resistors. Whats the point in installing energy efficent bulbs if you waste the energy else where?

If you turn on your turn signal, and put your ear down there, you'll hear it clicking away.
