Default Weird noise at 20-25mph

I have a knocking/clunking sound coming from the front when driving at 20-25mph. It sounds like something rolling around in a plastic trash can( if that helps any). If I go above that speed it goes away. If I apply the brakes it still does it. I noticed the noise after I replaced the front brake pads and rotated the tires. I also noticed the tires have more road noise after rotation.

Things I've done so far that I thought could be the problem.

Took out front struts. Checked for leaks, greased top hats, and made sure that all the nuts and bolts where tight.

Checked sway bar. No broken bolts. Sway bar not broken.

Splash guard on drivers side was loose and flopping around. Fixed that and still made the noise.

Moved things in the engine bay by hand to see if anything was loose or hitting on something. Discovered that the air box wasn't together (Replaced air filter awhile ago with non toyota brand filter. Was a pain to get it back together.) and got it sitting right. Still no luck.

This is getting annoying and I can't think of anything else to check.

Mods done to the car. Goldline springs, echo front struts, urethane end links, strut bar, and 16x8 002's. These where all on the car before this noise.

Default weird scion noise at 20-25 mph

My 2005 Scion XB is making the same noise!!!! When I slow down to 20-25 mph from about 40 mph is is the weirdest noncontinuous clunking noise form the front left. If I take my foot off the brake it stops. It is not a bad brake thing though because only in that 20-25 mph range that I hear the noise.

Took it to Kaufman Tire and they are saying the initial gear ring is bad and the transmission is about to go!! Am now afraid to drive it and had it towed to the Toyota dealership. They will look at it tomorrow morning and tell me if Kaufman got it right. 9/30/09

I am praying the tire people are wrong because I am 5 weeks past 5 years in service. There is a 5 year 60,000 warranty on transmission.

I have started a begging log with Scion USA to see if they will honor the transmission warranty if the dealership confirms it is indeed a transmission problem.

My car has 54,000 miles.

Please post what dealership tells you. I'm 5,000 past the 60,000 warranty and I'm getting this noise and random check engine lights. Also, is your xb an auto or manual?

Dealership will let me know by noon what the problem is. I have an XB automatic transmission. It may take longer to know what Scion USA will do.

If the transmission is bad and we cannot successfully beg Scion to honor the warranty, we will probably trade in for a Mazda 5. I have 2 children and could use that 3rd row seat for hauling them and their friends. Just do not want to give up my great gas mileage.

I can tell you the dealership asked my if my check engine light was coming on. It is not....

I thought I would keep my cute little car forever, but am not feeling the love for it right now...... I cannot afford a new transmission every 50,000 miles. (the estimate is $3500 part and $823 labor at the dealership)

Default weird 20-25 mph noise

As with Kaufman at first, the dealer cannot duplicate the noise. You and I are the only people who know how to make it happen I guess. I had to take the car back to Kaufman on Tuesday to have them ride with me for the noise. They could not duplicate it on Saturday when we did a drop-off.

At this point, I have to talk with my husband about what to do. The car is running fine otherwise and the dealer cannot duplicate. We might just trade it in now while we are ahead of the game. Maybe we do not want to confirm a transmission problem since we are out of warranty.

Am waiting for my husband to call me back. If we go forward, I have to drive out to the dealership and drive the car with the service manager.

Sorry this is not more helpful at this time.
