Default Replacement brake pads for 2006 xB?

I'm thinking ahead to when I'll need to replace my brake pads. Are there any that dramatically (noticeably) improve an xB's braking, such as ceramics?

Thanks

Kerry

Hi jwaj2002,

Did you notice a difference with the NAPA ceramics?

Hi jwaj2002,

I'm looking for someone who has replaced their 2006 xB OEM brake pads with ceramics to find out if they noticed a significant difference in stopping. The key words are "noticeable" and "significant." Perhaps you should let someone else answer.

Thanks,

Kerry

yes, they will stop better and quicker, the thing is they are best if your going to be stopping quickly from speed (60mph) then the stock pads

Get EBC brake pads if you want serious stopping power. We used the Greenstuff first on our xB. They were awesome! Almost dangerously fast stopping power. But they leave crazy amounts of brake dust. The EBC Redstuff is great stopping power, but very little brake dust--I'd say less than OEM based on how often I have to wash my wheels. They are pricey--70 or 80$--but they have saved our lives(and our car). Seriously.

Im going to look into a set of these they sound like a good investment. If could spend less time messing with cleaning my rims because of these that would be worth it.

EBC sells nice slotted rotors too. Sorry this picture is so huge. I don't actually know much about computers so I don't know to make it smaller.

Hi bugandxbandme,

Re the rotors. I'm wondering if your noticeable improved stopping came from a combination of those pads and their rotors or did you just replace the pads?

How much for the rotors?

Thanks muchly, Kerry

PS. I just have to keep raving about my '06 xB. I've had it 4 years (28K) and except for the required self maintenance — oil, wiper blades, rotate tires, & air filter, I've not to had to take it to Toyota. Although I plan on keeping it a total of ten years I would have got the latest, with the all-around disk brakes were it not for the increased mpg.

Yeah, us too. We almost signed on an xB2, but the more we thought about it we realized the mpg wouldn't be good enough for us. In our experience the greatest gain in stopping power comes from the pads. The slotted rotors are mainly for looks and if you are going to be braking a lot--better cooling and de-gassing. Especially for our light cars. We don't really need huge brakes, just great brake pads.

I have put on Hawk pads, Powerslot slotted rotors and stainless lines on the xB now. I felt a huge difference when doing all three of those things.

I think I paid around $250 for the pads and rotors about 1 1/2 years ago. Prices may have changed since then.

Hi Sciond,

Looks like we need someone who has tried both and can say for sure which is better.

Thanks,

Kerry

If you can engage ABS with stock pads, there is no need to upgrade unless you are tracking and need fade resistance. If you want to stop in a shorter distance, you need to upgrade tires, not pads.
