I've got a Camo xB with stock 9-spoke wheel covers (there, I said it). I have to agree with my 15-year-old son that it would look better with black wheels. But I don't want to go to larger wheels, wider tires, shorter sidewalls. Can anyone recommend 15" black wheels without chrome rim, that'll take the stock tires? I just want something that'll work, and don't want to deal with offset problems, wheel porosity problems, or anything very delicate or theft-prone. Also want something that looks decent when it's dirty. Yeah, I could just take off the wheel covers, but that's too plain even for me.

I called a local place just now, and came up with gray Axis Mag-Lites for $140. Just did a search here for those, and found there's some concern about strength of 4-spoke wheels.

 

I just got these wheels and I should be getting them tomorrow I will post pix as soon as i mount them.

I've been rolling them for almost a year now and have no concerns. Axis is a great company, they are probably safer than many of these no-name brands, regardless of the number of spokes. I searched and searched and couldn't find one actual occurance of them failing, but a lot of rumor and assumptions. Plus you're only holding up 2400 pounds:

The graphite looks perfect on the Camo. That's a good price too and they aren't real easy to find sometimes.

 

If you don't care about brand names, rota makes good (cast) rims for their price. They produce replica style rims and most every style comes in 15" and in black. They sell for around $100-$115 per rim for 15"s.

 

I can see the right angles on the Mag Lites really complement the boxiness of the car. But will they look half-assed with plain unpainted calipers and drums in full view behind them?

 

i too was gonna suggest rota wheels the have numerous styles,aka knock off's and they are light weight compared to others.

 

There's always the 5zigen FN01R (or the cast version) ... or the Motegi Trak Lites... you can get those in black too.

 

I'm starting to believe gray might be better than black -- I'm not into keeping my car super clean, and like TheScionicMan said, gray goes well with camo. But I've never owned such an open wheel, with the stuff underneath so exposed. Will stock calipers and drums look lame with these wheels?

P.S. In fact I've never replaced stock wheels on any of my cars, in 32 years of driving, never wanted to until now. In this case I'd be going from 15x6 (stock) to 15x7, and keeping the stock tires. Will the tires look at all strange on the wider rims? Effect on gas mileage ought to be nil, right?

One more question: Would you use a lock on these wheels?

 

Here's a shot without the calipers and drums painted. It doesn't look that bad, but the calipers are a dull gray and the drums had 4 little bare spots where the stocks contacted that started to rust. I used the Duplicolor kit for the calipers - $15 and 2 hours time plus drying overnite and I shot the drums with High Heat Black paint just to look clean and to stop the rust. My new plan is to get the paint code for the maglites and paint the drums and center of the rotor with that. The yellow calipers are a real eye-catcher behind those open wheels. I always see people's gaze drawn to there. The openness makes them really easy to clean and also keeps them pretty cool, oughtta help dissipate brake heat too...

 

i would say do a rota gt3 in olive green it would match perfect! and would loookkk siiiickkkkkkkk
