Hey Guys!

I am on the verge of buying the Enkei Evo-6s pictured below. They are 18x7.5. I do not want to roll on 35s because I don't want my quality of ride to suffer that bad. I am buying and installing Goldlines at the same time.....will a 215/40 tire rub on that wheel? Lastly, how far off from stock will the set up be? Would a 205/40 put me closer?

With all due respect, I need facts......not opinions. I would greatly appreciate some of you guys that have extensive experience in wheels helping me out. I am still new to this. Thanks for the help!

 

well i plan on getting 19's with goldlines ... so im in the same boat as you ?? will it rub ??

That chart is awesome, but still doesn't answer my question. What do I need to make my tires no rub a 215 or a 205? Can I fit a 40 tire on 18x7.5 wheels? I am REALLY new at this guys, but I desperately want to learn! Thank you for your help!

 

Ok, since I don't have 18", I did the math, and here is what I think (I know you are
looking for facts not opinions, math is what I have for you).

Stock tires are 185/60/15

I have 215/45/17 which is 3.7% over stock size. I get a little rub/chuff when I
make hard right turns. I think getting my alignment done will take care of that, as I
have just a hair of drift to one side, and my camber is off by a hair.

So, doing the math, your 215/40/18 are 4.16% larger then stock which is going to
throw your speedo off, your odometer off, and probably rub a bit more then mine
do, even if your alignment and offset are perfect. I don't belive too terribly much
though, as you are only 3mm taller then I am with those wheels.

205/40/18 are going to put you 2.31% larger then stock, and I think would be fine.

I went with 45 series tires because I'm worried about potholes, and I wanted better
then stock ride (with goldline springs) which is exactly what I have now. I think if I
were to do it again, I could go 40 series tires and feel safe.

Now keep in mind, that if you go 40 series on 18", you are going a full inch diamter
taller then stock. So with the two inch drop from GoldLine springs, plus the taller
wheel, your drop wont be as low to the ground, but you'll fill the wheel well better.

I'm happy with my setup, so if you want more rubber, I'd try it out and see. The worse
that could happen is that you chuff the inside of your wheel wells till it burns away
the plastic.

 

I think every car is different, I have Goldlines with 19's (215/35/19) and they don't rub. I also have a set of 17's with (215/45/17) and they have never rubbed.....

 

I'm positive that's true, even more so with handmade cars.

But these being Toyota, and Japanese made ones at that,
I'm pretty sure the tolerances are closer then we are used
too!

I think he'll be fine. Like I said, I think a lot of my rubbing,
which only happens on HARD RIGHT turns, is probably
alignment issues.

 

I have 18x7.5" rims with +38 offset and 215/40/18 tires dropped with Tanabe DF210s (which I believe are lower than Goldlines). I have NO rubbing issues at all. Hope this helps!

 

i have 18" Monderas on 215 35 kuhmo tires and they rub when i turn hard on the strut


but otherwise there ok

Thank you for all your posts. As far as my speedo and odometer.....will I need to calculate any adjustments or will I be comparable to stock so everything reads right? My wheels will have a 45 offset......so I want to make sure my speedo won't be off or I will need to know exactly how much. The cops around here are SUPER ****! Thanks again for your help.

Ok......I haven't received as much help as I thought I would.....so I think I have setteled on what I will get.

I am going to buy the 18s with 215/40/18 tires. These rims are 7.5" wide and have a 45 offset. Will anyone help me with how far off my speedo will be? I know that is bigger than factory......but I want 18s without riding on rubber bands. We have some fairly rough roads in some areas here. These wheels and the Goldlines should improve the ride.

Lastly, whatever the speedo/odometer affects are......I will read fewer miles and less speed with these wheels......correct?

yeah speedometer will be off by only like 2-3mph no biggie! with a +45offset in the rear it might rub you can put a 5mm spacer or purchase the 10mm from onetongarage

If you need more sidewall protection a 225/40-18 will also work. peace

 

Thanks for the post.....why does a 225 tire offer more protection than a 215 tire?

 

Just looked at the spacers on onetongarage.....is it better to go with the shims or the spacers? Same price, so it doesn't matter to me......looks like they do the same thing.

 

get the rear spacer shims from onetongarage!

 

I am almost sure on a 45mm offset wheel, you will have problems fitting. I have a set of wheels with 42mm offset and the rear space between the tires/rim and frame is about 3/4 inch, not much. My setup, 17inch rim, offset 42mm, tire 215/45/17.

I just purchased 4-Spacers and 2 shims from www.onetongarage.com .

the spacers will give you 5mm space without longer wheel studs and the rear shims will give you 10mm space hardware included.

Rear shims are $65.00 a pair - 10mm.
Spacers are $55.00 a pair for 5mm.
