Default Coil over Opinions!

Now I know you all are going to sa y to do a search, but I did and there is nothing that is as in depth as what I would like to start, so please, if you have something to contribute, Please do so.

I am very interested in purchaseing coil overs. The problem is, is that a). I don't know anyone that has a set,. b) There is a considerable selection out there and I would like to know the pros and cons of each brand. c) I have Tanabe df210's, I would like to go lower, but does the ride quality suffer and how is the ride quality in comparison to springs (obviously should be better, but is it $1200 better )

Thanks in advance for your input

Joe

I don't have the SS setup but I do have the Basic coilovers from Tein. I drove the car for a week before putting the s-tech springs in then about two weeks ago i swapped em out for the coilovers. That being said, I wouldn't be able to compare a stock ride vs the coils but between the springs and coils, there is a difference. I 'feel' the road (in a good way) and the car takes turns like it's on rails. plus i got a lower ride out of it

to answer your specific question RE: if the ride suffers, it depends on your point of view. the ride is stiffer, but that's what i wanted. as for the $$ difference.. that's up to you too but I feel it was money well spent, i make use of it everytime i come home.. the offramp by my house is a freshly paved turn then straight away that leads into an 'S' turn, kinda. good fun!

Hey! Thanks for your feed back! You say that your ride is stiffer, does that mean bouncier or does it absorb potholes and bumps better? Would that also have to do w/ the fact that they are not adjustable like the ss tein set up?

even if adjustable you would only get soft or stiff , no change on the fly , he means stiff as in no floating over bumps , you feel them but your car isnt bouncing up and down or anything like that.

How would the performance be if I set the adjustable setting to soft or mediium soft lowered about 3 inches. I know it's all pretty subjective but your help would be appreciated. also does anyone have the blitz's? can anyone compare the blitz's and the ss teins? Thanks for your feedback guys!

yeah, what he said

as for the SS ones and adjusting the dampening force.. hmm.. i don't think anyone can give you a concrete answer since, as you said, it's all subjective. my friend has that setup in his WRX and i've ridden with him while he was changing the settings. From the softest to the hardest, there is an almost imperceptable difference. I doubt though that unless you are the driver you would notice anything significant, and even then, I don't think you'd really tell unless you started to really push the ride around (ie, take that corner faster than the posted speed limit).

If you have the money, get the basic coilovers, if you have lots of money, get the coilovers and the EDFC unit. but unless you are going to do some kind of racing to warrant that type of equipment, well..

At a 3 inch drop there isnt much difference between soft and stiff at say a 2 inch drop the difference is alot more profound.

most coilover setups will make the ride stiffer. it will not absorb as much of the bumps in the road as to do that, the dampening has to be softer. tein basics and ss ride fairly smooth from what i have heard. contact brad (squirrel) or teddy(bbted). naim(xb ey) is runnin hks and so is mark (turbohoses), those are supposed to handle real well and they drop really low. Ken (ncp31) is running cusco vacanza but he is parting his xb. pm him if you want them, they are going for $850 + trade for stock suspension. or $725 if you have stock shocks w/aftermarket springs. but if you want super high performance, endless makes a few sets that are about double the price.
