are regular tires better than uni-directional ones, or vice versa? which have a longer life?

 

Good Question, I'm trying to find out a little bout the uni's myself. I have a set of Toyo Proxes and would like to find out if their worth it in the future or should I begin my search for regular rubber shoes. Hope this post gets some feedback! What are u ridin on?

 

right now i'm rolling on uni-directionals, but i think i am beginning to find out that the brand that i have is crap. so unfortunately i might need new ones. i am wondering if i should get other uni-directionals or if i should use the opportunity to get regular directionals. with uni-directionals you can only rotate front to back, but regulars you can cross rotate and stuff so i am wondering if this would lead to longer tire life than uni ones.

also, which would you guys get out of these 3? these are the ones i am going to choose from:
Toyo Proxes 4 (uni-directional)
Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S (directional)
Yokohama AVS dB S2 (uni-directional)

 

i run proxes4 and love em so they get my vote

 

I'm running Toyo proxes 4's at the suggestion of my brother in-law. He is a Master
mechanic and builds drag cars. His daily driver is blown Mustang with over 700 hp.
He hates the Pirelli's specifically and prefers the Toyo's. My box seems to handle
well in wet or dry conditions.

 

So can ur brother in-law tells us what the life of the Toyo Proxes 4 is? 10k, 25k, etc....

 

I would not expect more that 25k out of any quality performance tire.
That's the trade off. Sticky or long life.

 

Seeing as most sports tires are directional I think its safe to say directional tires are better for handling. Standard tires are probably better for all-season and snow.
