Default Rear Bumper Applique on a RS 2.0 ?

My family and I took the xB camping this weekend. We had a great time and the box held an AMAZING amount of stuff. But unfortunately, we also suffered our first mishap with the car. When we got to the campsite to unload, my wife opend the hatch and something fell out and put a nick in the top of the bumper! I supposed we could try to have it fixed, but it won't be cheap. Also, it's kind of a vulnerable area. Something like that could easily happen again. I was thinking about getting the rear bumper applique, but I'm not sure I'll like how it looks. I kinda wish it was solid instead of having the holes in it. How many of you have it, and what do you think of it? Anyone ever seen one on a Solar Yellow xB like ours?

The bumper applique would look great with the yellow. especially if you like the black/yellow contrast. Since the applique is not very thick, and it is flexible it would not really protect from the accident that you are talking about. The applique would just have the nick (if it didn't happen to hit in a one of the holes. A solid, thicker aftermarket one may protect better or go with home made (personally engineered). It mainly is for looks, but it does protect from small scuf marks when something is set on the bumper and scooted.

I like the "personally engineered" idea, but I wouldn't know where to find the stuff to make it from. I know what you mean about the applique probably not being strong enough to protect it from much. At this point, it's mostly about hiding the nick that's already there.....as long as it doesn't line up with one of the holes.

Any one in particular? I've only seen the one sold by Toyota, and a chrome bB one. Any links would be appreciated.

Hmmm...yeah, I like it. The chrome would look great with the yellow. The only problem with it is the price. For $129 (plus shipping), I might be able to have the nicked bumper repaired. It's something to think about though, because it would protect it in the future. Nice find...thanks.

If it does, I'm SOL. I'll have to get it repaired then I guess.
It's really not a bad nick. It kinda gouged the paint back
about 1/8" but the black bumper shows through and really stands out in a sea of yellow.

What about having bedliner sprayed on it I believe you can even get them sprayed in other colors than black or you could just pain over it. I've seen it on a few trucks that way.

I hate the holey griptape. I'm going to be peeling mine off soon and replacing it with one of these beautiful CF covers. Say NO to Chrome.

I really don't know anything about this, so it may be a stupid question.....but what is all of this "Carbon Fiber" stuff made from? Is it really CF, or are most of these aftermarket auto parts made from some type of plastic with a CF "look" printed on it somehow?

Chrome looks good with yellow. I got chrome wheels and tailights on my yellow xB. Its all a matter of opinion and what the beholder thinks looks good. But I do like the bumper applique on yours.

They use real CF for these things. Many things are made with CF "look" and you can usually tell by the price and they'll usually point it out as well. CF look looks more like our seat fabric than real CF which has that 3-D weave that looks like Q-Bert could jump down it. It's Carbon fiber weave material molded to shape and then covered with a clear glaze that is kinda thick. Sorry to sound so technical, haha, I don't want to say the wrong substance...

Thanks, but it looks like it's already gone. About the CF one posted above...when will they be available? For $120 I might seriously consider it.
