Default Tire question - Yokohama H4S

I have the pzero's right now, as most of you probably know.. i am probably only going to get 20k out of them, and can't afford to pay again for them.. i'm not that rich!

I saw some Yokohama H4S tires looked pretty good, any thoughts on these? anyone have any experience with these?

it's a pretty ugly looking tread pattern. but it should last awhile. what size are you running ?

Those are the tires I got for my xB from The Tire Rack. No they don't have the cool tuner style tread pattern, but with a treadwear rating of 500 I'm hoping they will last more than 20k miles. The tread looks like the original Goodyear Gatorback tread pattern. Mine are 215-40-17. Go to www.tirerack.com and read the reviews too. Their customers rate this tire pretty high too.

a wear of 500 means a crappy handling tire and way too hard for my tastes. i love yoko avs es 100's best tire's i've ever had. and they have a 280 tread rating and with me driving very hard all the time i got over 25k out of a set

If you're wanting a high performance tire at a hell of a bargain price, try the Fuzion ZRi's. They're around $75 a tire, but have a tread and compound design almost matching that of the more expensive Firestone Wide Oval or Bridgestone Potenza RE750.

just the stock size for the tC of 215/45-17.. yeah i know it's got a higher mileage rating, was trying to balance getting more mileage out of the tire (more than 20k) and not having to spend so much..

yeah the pzero's say they last a lot longer, 400 treadwear rating, but that's not the case.. so looking for something close to the pzero's in terms of handling, just last longer..

Noise...louder than the Goodyears that came on the xB but ok IMO.
Handling...I'm driving an xB It's not a corner carver but it's ok.
Wet/Dry traction...excellent!!!
Snow...ask me next spring and I'll let you know IF we got any snow!!!

IMO, these tires will not handle like a soft tread Z rated tire but for the 95% of the driving that most of us do, this tire should do the job. I have 4K miles on mine so far and the wear appears to be excellent. I will rotate them every 5K and maintain proper air pressure like I do with all my vehicles.

Good luck with your decision.

I have had the Yokohama H4S's on my daily driver for over a year now and have been very pleased with them. They are a good balance of wet and dry traction, handling, treadwear, and life. I have driven them in almost every condition imaginable, with the exception of snow, (our Winters are so bad, Winter tires are almost mandatory) and they have not let me down yet!

I was running Yokohama H4S's on my probe for about a year and a half. It was between the time when I replaced the Yokohama A4S's (they had been discontinued) and when I bought my XB. I was nothing buy happy with them. They have good traction all around, especially in the rain. They have decent traction in the snow, I wouldn't consider it great, but for lighter winters like we have in the MD area (normally), they sufficed well. My mother has had the H4S's on an Audi A4 1.8t Quattro for close to a year now. She was tired of the fast tread wear of the Michelin Pilots she had been using, so I recommended the H4S's to her. She think that they grip better than the Michelins in all conditions.

So I would say they are all around a good tire, and well worth the money.

sounds like they're decent tires, maybe not as good as the pzero's.. but respectable and good, not terrible from what i'm gathering here.. decent treadwear, good ride, quiet, good in wet/dry.. nothing that bad about them...

yeah the pzero's were about a 5 out of 10 for snow IMO.. nothing exciting but i made it home safely.. not to bad for a high performance tire.. if the yoko h4s can do that too about a 5 out of 10 for snow, then ya they would work out for me..

yeah i'll check out the tires when the pzero's show the wear bars.. was thinking of the proxes (toyo) 4.. but doesn't look like it could dare handle snow at all..

so thanks for all the input.. i appreciate it

I've been running 205/55-15 V4s's with a Tire Rack ASA wheel for a few months now and am very happy with them. No, the H4/V4s is not an ultra high perf tire, but you are talking about a Scion (for reference, I have Yokohama Intermediates on my Miata). Match the tire to the vehicle dynamics. Even even lowered with Hotchkis springs, the tire is way more than this car needs. This tire outperforms anything the Scion can throw at it and is a huge improvement over the OE Goodyears that I will be running in the winter. I also looked at the ES100's and have drove other cars with these tires but am happy with the H4/V4s.

H4/V4s makes no noise, is very responsive, drives straight, has a long tread wear and is reasonable (I paid around $70/tire). No need to run something like a Michelin Pilot Sport that offers ultimate handling at the cost of treadwear on a Scion.
