Default FOR YOU GLASS PROS...

I can see a lot of surface scratches on my winshield like someone used a brillo pad on it. Is there anyway to remove superficial scratches from glass?

thanks

cerium oxide and a felt 'bob' on the end of a drill - the fun part is cerium oxide dust is highly hazardous to inhale and the heat in polishing can build rapidly and easily crack the windshield. party on.

seriously - yeah, it can be done - although if you've never done it, it'd be a better idea to find a local detail / glass shop that'll do it for you.

I'd suggest either trying car wax or Rain-x first. They usually hide a lot of small imperfections and they will help water roll off when it's raining.

Yes, wax on glass. My cousin used to detail cars and he was the first to tell me about it. Then I saw it on the Mother's Car Show Tour tv show. Mr. Chemist did a segment on how the pros get glass ready for the show. First you wash the dirt and grime off, then use the finest steel wool you can get, at least 0000, then use your favorite car wax just like you would on paint.

Check this out. Your local detailer could do this, or you could take a stab at it if
you can procure yourself a Porter Cable.

I HIGHLY recommend the Porter Cable Random Orbital which can be picked up for
about $93 plus tax as Lowes hardware. I use it for polishing, buffing, and repairs of
the crappy Scion paint.

I've never heard of steel wool actually buffing scratches out but it does clean it well. I also wouldn't suggest using 000 becaus it's more abrasive. Try to find 0000 or if you can 00000. I normally dip the steel wool into my normal wash solution because it acts as a lubricant, Mr Chemist used glass cleaner. Then lightly go over your windshield. It doesn't have to be in circles or any other particular motion. The key is lightly. Let the steel wool do the work. If you press down too much you will have more scratches. Then rinse, dry, wax or Rain-x.

From my personal experience Rain-x does a better job of letting water bead and roll of than regular car wax. It just depends on the chemical composition of the wax so some may work better than others.

Steel wool and clay bar will do the same thing and is cheaper.

That's pretty much it but don't scrub. Steel wool will tear your windshield up if you scrub. Just lightly run over it and the let the wool do the work.
