what would I need to do a full suspension on a 05 xb? What are th best brands and about how much am I looking to end up spending? any help would be greatly appreciated

 

Do you want coilovers or a spring + shock set up? The price would be something like $400-$1k+. As for tools, that part I dont know. I would know you would need a torque wrench or two. For a coilover kit, just pick the brand & buy. For a spring & shock there is some to pick from. TRD or Koni Shocls. Tanabe, Gold Line, H&R, RS*R, Tien, Hotchkis, & some others make springs for the xB. It would depend on what kind of drop you want.

Goldline, Tein, Hotchkis are good. Expect to pay about $150 and install them yourself. Do some looking around here for reviews of them. Lots of people are saying the Koni shocks are necessary when lowered.

Personally, I have Hotchkis and stock shocks, which are soon to be replaced by the Konis.

about 1300 hundred in total.. probably the 1500 but nice ride looks good.....too

 

You could always go TRD but for the drop you're looking for I say Hotchkis. The hotchkis spring make the box look like it's right on top of the wheels. One of our local customers took me for a ride in his box with the Hotchkis springs and they still ride great. As far as shocks go TRD's will do the job just fine. If you really want to go ALL out you could get the hotchkis sways and a strut bar.

Just a question. i am thinking to get some sway bars for my xB. and the Hotchkis makes the front bar 28mm, and the rear about 12mm. But Progress makes the rear 22. Does that difference make a different ride quality? And also for some coilover and spring rate, some companies make the front stiffer than the rear, and some did exactly the opposite way. Does that also affect the ride quality? Can someone acknowledable to answer my question? Thank you

 

The Hotchkis sway bars probably won't have much effect on the ride. This is because they are a very mild improvement in handling. The hollow front sway may be a bit different stiffness than stock (lighter? yes....stiffer? unknown....). The add-on rear sway hardly adds any stiffness. To me, this sway bar set is pretty darn lame. I would love to hear the reasoning for this super wimpy, 1/2" rear sway.

The Progressive rear sway is about 10 times stiffer than the Hotchkis. You can really feel the impact on oversteer and handling. Because of this, you can also feel the negative impact on the ride. The rear sway "stiffens" the rear suspension when there is differential movement between the wheels (side to side). When you hit a bump on one side of the car, the rear sway will transmit some of that force to the other side of the car. The car sort of waggles side to side a little. But, IMHO, the handling benefit is more substantial than the loss in ride comfort. Full recommendation for the Progressive sway.

 

I wouldn't call it wimpy but that may just be me. The reason that the hotchkis rear sway is smaller is it's designed to work in conjunction with the larger from sway. As where the Progressive sway is trying to do the job of both. Now let me ask you this where do you think the most body roll is going to come from in an xB? I'm betting on the front because thats where the most weight is. So you tell me whats gonna be better for handling. I say the hotchkis.
