Default Thinking about coil-overs. Attention people with Tein Basic

Hey everybody. I'm currently dropped on Tanabe DF210's (2") on TRD struts and stock rear shocks. I've been thinking about getting some tein basic dampers, but i don't get that much more of a drop for the money..... So i was hoping you guys could post up some pics of ur box slammed on teins.

Here's the comparison:

If anything else, i'd get them for the stiffer ride. I'm dying for a stiff ride! Bounce on springs are killing me.

Lastly the only thing stoping me is, WHY THE HELL DO THEY HAVE TO BE GREEN!?

I can't answers your question on the coilovers. But I can tell you why there green. Japanese parts companies use specific colors on there parts so just but lookin at them you'll know who makes them..... At least that is what i've heard somewhere.

Hi Matt. I installed Basics a few days ago. I will post side-by-side pictures of Ray's stock RS2 alongside mine ASAP. I'm dropped to the max front and rear. I like the drop fine so far

As to color: Why don't you just spray paint them with a can? Krylon Fusion is really fine adhearing and flexible paint. You could even paint the springs. This stuff sticks to poly plastic chairs. It will flex. It surely would stick to the springs. The shocks can be painted similarly or with any paint. However, Fusion does seem to bond to most everything very well so you might as well use Fusion (but I've not painted my Teins)

As to handling: The ride is very sweet; moreso than stock. IMO body roll is -greater- than on stock springs. But, after getting an input from Dewmerz, who disagrees about the roll, we might consider that Tein Basics roll the body less than Tein H-Techs on stock struts/shocks.

As to ride stiffness: is not nearly stiff enough for my wants.
I want a stiff ride for flatter cornering (see "Tein growing pains thread").
I will prolly check in with Tein USA today to see what my options are for stiffer springing.

I do not regret getting Tein Basics. But in hindsight, I'd have inquired about getting my own choice of spring rates instead of a USA-market designed kit. Most of us want a very cushy ride after lowering. I would say this kit -corners just great but not better than stock and it is softer than stock. And so, it rolls the body more than stock.

Waggle-drive the car before you put in new suspension. Get a memory for how much it body rolls. Try again after installing the front or rear parts. Get a feel for what, if anything, has altered about the body roll characteristic.

Here, until I get pictures for you..

distance from ground to front and rear lips, measured at the centerline:

my car
rear: 6.5"
front: 5.5"
DC muffler clearance to road:4"

Ray's car
rear: 9.25"
front: 7.25"

note: my tires are undersize from stock diameter. they give me about a half inch of drop. I could drop the front maybe one half inch more. I put some pretension on the short, front Tein spring to ensure it always stays on its seat. Pluse I want a nearly level car. The rear cannot come down any more than it is at the moment.

I would like to drop the rear at least another inch or two, then level the front to suit.
The DC muffler canister will be the limiting factor. If I decide to drop more in the rear, and run into clearance problems with the road... well, I could fit an oval muffler instead.

note: Tein's front springs are shorter in length than the adjustment range available in the front strut. While the car is jacked up it is vital to set the initial height to a point which ensures there always being some tension on the slacked spring, in order to keep it always seated on the upper perch under extreme conditions.
Otherwise noise and damage to the aluminum upper perch will occur.

In other words, you can "go lower" in front than I am, even by an inch, but I would not drive much on it that way -for damage would begin to occur if we ever lift the wheel from the road in big bump situations-

Tein does make short, filler springs.. one benefit of which, would be to prevent this possibility. I will check to learn more about the helper spring.
You'd stack this spring with the regular spring.

/\/\ Does that spray paint you mentioned have a sticky texture to it when it's dry?
